View Full Version : 2006 wrx with 334hp and 340lbs of tq time for gears upgrade, yes or no?

I just upgraded to a VF39 and got tuned at The Shop CT and put down 334hp and 340 lbs of tq on my 2006 wrx. Now I DO NOT launch my car ever!!! I do drive spiritly and have some fun from roll on the highway sometimes with friends every now and then but the car will never see any kind of auto cross or 1/4 mile dragway pulls. Should I be looking into the RA gears which seems kinda reasonable in price compared to the PPG gears or STI tranny. Or am I ok with what I've got stock for my driving habbits and style? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Rob

And you something like 15,000 miles on your swap and 3 passes at the track correct?

If you have the know-how then the hardest part is the install, I say do it.

Si senior that is correct. Only thing if your horny to upgrade would be the stock clutch

did the 2006 wrx have the 2.0 motor still? if so, those are impressive numbers with the VF39

Nope 06/07 are the 2.5L and something about the tranny from the LGT

+1 330 seems really high for a VF39

I don't know it was done on a dyno dynamics dyno. I can't speak to if the shop ct's dyno reads high or low but my buddy with his 08 Mustang GT him solo and me with a passenger (around 50lbs of weight difference). I put a car on him from a roll and he puts down 311whp also on a dyno dynamics(different place). I'm more concerned about if I should be upgrading my tranny with the way I drive (no auto cross or 1/4 mile runs or never launching the car) really than anything :) My other friend with his 07 STI put down 323.7whp/353tq on the same dyno if that helps at all.

You must be running a front mount intercooler to pull those numbers

Man that`s a lot of power for that turbo. On the Legacy GT site I don`t recall anyone putting out that power with your mods. You must have an extreme tune.

It was done by Junior at the shop ct. The car was making more TQ down low but he took out timing from it because he didn't want to run that much TQ on the 5 speed at that low of a rpm. His exact words were I want to save you tranny. You can feel the power difference in the lower RPM lagging compared to over the 3000rpm. The stage 2 OTS map with the TD04 spooled much quicker and the lower rpm(3000rpm and under) felt alot more TQ to it compare to the map I have now. Over the 3000rpm range the new tune pulls much harder than previously though and the car is tuned on 18lbs.

If I havent broken my tranny yet with the minimal horse power difference between us I doubt you will

Great guys-great tuners, dyno seems to read HIGH all all fronts!! This and 30r's making 400hp+ on pump too on that dyno.

Anyway, chart looks great and I bet the car pulls hard-congrats!!!

Yeah car pulls really nice, thanks :)

Junior and the guys were really great to me though at the shop, great service.

I really don't care about the numbers, not really a numbers guy. I just want to have a fun and safe daily driver :)

Jwebsta32 has a bigger turbo than me making almost the same power so he either reads low or I'm reading a little high or maybe a little bit of both :)

THAT good?
On a vf39?
I've seen shopCT's YouTube dyno runs, are you certain the input loads, etc., aren't being tweaked for "dyno queen" big number pulls?
If not, my FP Green w/tgv deletes et al., should pull an easy, daily +400WHP/400TQ-according to that shopCT dyno.

I'm just sayin'...

It's more then dyno numbers, JR's car TRAP MPH what they should number wise, that's the best power indicator then me. He has VF39 cars going 11s.

JR's been doing this for 5-6 years now, as long as I've seen he's THAT good.

Rallispecs latest gear sets with upgraded synchros are said to handle ~360 lb/tq with nothing to worry about. I ran these in my gc for 3 months before the engine crapped out. And loved them in every way, they whined a lil, closer gears and i could launch the car. I didnt do it alot, but damn was it awesome.

I spent $2500 installed on my set, they were prototype scynchros at the time, but im sure they are being used now normally.

Also, if you are just looking for dd, these would be the most economical, but if you do launch alot, youll break them. Gauranteed, they arent racing gears they are just built for the occasional autoX and daily drives.

I've never seen or heard the shop ct being called or know being a "dyno queen" The car pull quite nice. I was able to take down from a roll my buddy with his mustang GT putting down 311whp and traps 109mph in the 1/4. So the car seems to pull pretty well, JR does great work

If your on a budget go with a LGT unit. You might need a rear diff for the 4.11's. Plus an LGT rear diff is limited slip.
The guys on LGT.COM are putting 350whp+ through those 5 speeds.

^This. You wont regret it. Not only do you get the good tranny but if you two upgraded differentials in your WRX instead of the POS DIAF dousche bag garbage open front diffrential and also a much higher quality center diff.

DO IT and never look back!
