I think I shattered a front CV shaft or axel or whatever in the WRX tonight. Big bang, followed by little bangs and shuttering, followed by thumping and grinding. CV joint had been clicking for a couple weeks, so I knew it was going to need replacing. But my tranny has also been making some noise for a while that no one had been able to diagnose, so I'm hoping I didn't kerplode that. :(

Happened just as I was leaving work. I drive it about two miles to a friends house. He's going to take a look at it tomorrow, and hopefully be able to fix it within the next week.

I'd only had her back for about a month after spending almost six trying to diagnose the tranny and fix a host of other issues. :spin:

My buddy drove it and said he's thinking transmission. HE's got a friend with a lift, so he's going to take it over on Wednesday.

Once again, ****.

Not trying to dodge the swear filter either, feel free to put your favorite explanative in there.

Tranny. :(

Or, to be more specific (as far as I can comprehend) pinion bearing went and took a lot with it. Tranny'd been making some weird noise for about a year now anyway, so I shouldn't be surpised.

So, the transmission hunt begins.

What year WRX? RCKSTR has a trans for sale.

Sale is pending on RCKSTR's last I talked to him. And 6spd would be nice, except I don't have a lot of $$$ to throw at this. I'm just going to get one in, then rebuild my OE and either sell it or save it as a spare.

I'm going to see him in a little while, I can check on the status of his for sale trans if you want.

Bump.

So, I ended up buying RCKSTR's transmission, delivered courtesy of squee. It's currently with my friend/mechanic, and should go in tomorrow. I even made a special trip down to Evergreen to get the good stuff for it, Subaru Extra-S.

But while I was driving the SVX in the mean time, patiently waiting for the WRX to be finished, I lost the alternator in that. **** once more. :unamused:

Now I've gotten to have the fun of begging and pleading for a ride to work/school for me and my daughters all week. On the bright side, I pulled a fast one on Advance Auto and got a reman for almost half of theirs (and anyone elses) price, and it'll be here tomorrow. I've already got the old one out and the battery on a charger.

Still, 2010 sucks so far. :(

That was actually squees tranny and my ds&rear diff. I just helped squee sell it

Yeah, good luck with getting both of those fixed man, let us know how it went. And thanks for the recommendation of the korner store or whatnot, best lobster roll I've ever had.

Hopefully the view behind the counter was pleasant as well.

Sorry about the trans... What a bummer. It always seems there is never a good time for things like that to happen. I'm sure Evergreen took care of you just fine for your parts. Good luck with the rebuild.

Well, the only "parts" I got from Evergreen this time around was the good Subaru Extra-S gear oil. But yes, Joel and Inksi are both very good friends of mine, and Evergreen always treats me right.

I'm actually having a delicious all-meat calzone from them right now.:D

Anyway, the SVX appears to be successfully resurrected. New alternator is on, everything seems to be running better, like brighter lights and easier steering.

Since the weather turned cold, it had also been getting harder to steer when cold, and I figured the PS pump was going. I figured this was what was causing the electrical problems I was having, maybe bogging the alternator down. At least until I got it tested and it was only pushing 30amps. Anyway, I discovered I had overfilled the PS pump consideribly last time I topped it off, so I took some out.

Anyhow, regardless of whether it was the overfilled PS pump bogging things down, a bad alternator, or a combination of both, everything seems to be running fine now.

Now to await news on the Rex.
