Besides getting to see the M3 in person I had the great opportunity to have Bren tune my car. The sad fact is that there aren't enough tuners looking into tuning the naturally aspirated Impreza. But we are very lucky to have this guy.

Bren had a base map to start with and we went from there. A couple hours of driving and making adjustments and I now have a car which is much more driveable.

My engine mods:
WRX header
Stromung Cat-Back
Cosmo Racing SRI
Gruppe-S LW Crank Pulley

Bren estimates about 16 hp gain. It is a very noticeable and I'm extremely happy with the way things turned out. Throttle response is perfect, and power up top is awesomely smooth. I didn't know if I would drive away noticing the gain in power, but it is very apparent.

We all know that power gains with a non-turbo Impreza are incomparable to what you get out of a turbocharged model. The fact that Bren did what he did rates very high in my book. I suggest anyone who is looking for a more driveable car with much more pep to go ahead and PM BG@BrenTuning (http://www.newenglandsubarus.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=1153).

Thanks man!:D

Good to hear. I'm planning on having him tinker around with my car after the holidays. Like you said, the actual power gains on a N/A will be minimal. As long as it registers on the butt dyno, I'll be pleased. :)

That's wicked cool, and a huge bargain at approximately $31/HP! :)

Ya I believe his rates start at $150ish, not 500

FYI we're having a meet & greet lunch next Sunday with him in mass. :spin:

It will definitely register dude. According to Bren, even a totally stock Impreza can be improved through a tune. Gains are minimal compared to what you get out of going stage 2 on a WRX, but decent for teh n/a scene.:)

can he do something about the lag of the drive-by-wire system? that's my biggest peeve with this car. Otherwise I love my car.

mdungelman- If you are ever in the Manchester area, I'd love to hear your car in person. The online vids do sound nice.

The lag is now gone. I'm only 15 minutes from Concord, so if you're in the area we can meet up. I have no problems with that. Also, there's a meet at Legend's in Portsmouth this Saturday night if you're interested.

Your setup was alot like this one, should be a piece of cake, my own custom definition wasn't enough :spin:

The stock DBW needs a lot of work. With tuning I go from beyond the fuel/timing tables. The lag is gone, I have changed it extensively. :D Rev matching upshifts is so effortless it is like a lightweight flywheel has been installed.

Bren did wonders for my DBW setup on my WRX. I got a dyno tune at ESP and then Bren tweaked the DBW and it felt like a whole new, better, tune.

I think I created something even better last weekend. When I catch up with stuff I'll shoot you an email.
