.........or a similar scan tool! It baffles me that people still go to autozone for a CEL check on their daily driven GT35R'd STi. This has fueled me to share this cheap resource.

You can diagnosis and check most of the issues on your car, and perform tests yourself without needing professional help.

With this cord you can read all codes, shadow faults (not thrown yet but almost there) even most manufacturer codes, and erase them.

You can check readiness monitors for inspection station woes

You can monitor live data and fuel trims to see how your car is adapting to mods or leaks. You can freeze or graph this data as well.

You can complete and EVAP test on most modern cars, and monitor o2 sensor levels and health.

It's very simple tool yet very effective, it works on all cars 96+ including 2008 CANbus networked cars. Not just your Subaru.

An AP works too if you all ready have one.

An AP works too if you all ready have one.

it does with code checking/clearing/logging if you want to be limited to that and one car.

however ap doesn't read readiness monitors, shadow faults, o2 sensor readings or some specific odb2 data (they share some channels), evap leak test, etc etc and works on every car.

Well I dont have a gt35 but it is pretty sad that I strolled into autozone the other day to borrow one of these. I suppose when you have an sti with that many mods you are so determined to put every cent into it that you neglect to buy really usefull little things like this. I will be putting one on my wish list for x-mas.

Nate - this is like alcohol anonymous, admitting is half the problem :)

The cheap ones that work just as well run about $100.

Yeah I have one of the higher tiered actron scanners. Not as nice as having a motis or something in the tool box, but it does the job when I need it.

For sure, they do a bit more for sophisticated diagnosis.

In my line of work I have damn near factory scan tool for every car I do, and the price point is crazy (Like a Motis). Most of the time, funny enough, i use that cheap harbor freight one instead. Works mint.

I've DD'd highly modified cars that were nearly bulletproof to lights but anyone that fiddles constantly changing things and monitoring their car should have one. Anyone who decides to mod a car is more prone to engine lights and parts failures/leaks. IMO, Owning one of these is as important as proper maintenance.

I see boost leaks, day in and day out, on decently wrenched cars. I see primary o2's die all the time. I see inlet pipes hooked up wrong. Vacuum lines going nowhere. I see BOV's missing gaskets, I see post o2's threaded into the bellmouth! You don't even know.

It's a very simple tool people overlook. All could be avoided with scanning and fixing :D By just having the code you can plug Pxxxx into google for Subaru. They also do far more then check codes, but having a scanner and a tactrix - Romraider/Learning view is a key combo.
