I don't know any other way than this:
-Remove rear seat
-Remove tophat nuts
-Disassemble strut bar into three pieces
-Position the two ends in the appropriate places and get the nuts started
-Open the trunk and install the middle section but don't tighten the bolts all the way
-Once the bar is together go back and tighten the tophat nuts but don't over tighten
-Tighten up the bolts at either end of the middle section
-Done and done

It's not required. Some people do it to "pre-load" the bar since the strut towers would sit slightly differently without the car being on the ground. I didn't bother with mine.

I did bother doing it the right way in a previous car, so you are correct morbid.
Chadsti, which way did you do it? If you didn't "preload" it, you should get used to it now, then uninstall, jack it up and reinstall and tell us if you feel a difference!
