Anyone able to contribute with a painting wheels thread? I think I'm going to do this Saturday morning if I get the time.

What do you want to know? Types of paints, techniques, procedures? Are you painting the wheels with tires on or off?

I am in the process of painting my wheels as we speak, making myself a set of goldies for the winter :) Duplicolor FTW!!

What I do Is start by sanding it down with some 120 grit move up to 220 if you really want to be extra thorough. Iuse JB Weld to fix curb rashes or you can use good ol fashioned bondo for minor stuff, but jb weld is good for chipped or missing pieces of the lip (provided it doesn't effect the area where the lip seals the tire.

as far as paints, i use duplicolor self etching primer, awesome stuff it is the one with the olive colored cap. After that give it a couple coats of your choice of color, duplicolor makes a bunch of wheel coatings that are good. I have used the grapahte one and it looks really good. Sand again if needed coat as needed, I used about 4-5 coats of the paint and then 4 or so of the clear coat.

I am sure people have differnt methods but that is what has wirked forme in a nutshell....since you are painting them on the wheels you are going to have a ***** of a time sanding the lip but be sure to tape the tires off well unless you want to keep them.

here is the last set I did in graphite, they were some 01 RS 6 spokes I got for my 04 RS

they looked really good until I busted one all upand the others got smashed by various flying rocks :(

can you take a side shot of your car with those rims on it? I have the same color and want to get a feel for how it'll look with that color rim on it.
