View Full Version : Question for anyone from Manchester Subaru

Just a quick question for the guys at Manch Subaru. I bought my car from there about 3 weeks ago, and when I took it for a test drive, I noticed a little vibration in the front end. I shrugged it off as just the tires needing a balancing and figured it was nothing. Well about a week ago I took the car to my buddy's shop and had him balance and rotate the tires for me. Well, vibration is still there, and now I'm getting a loud howling from at least one of the tires (sounds like driver's side).
I called Matt K who I bought the car from (awesome salesman btw), and he told me I should bring it in. I setup an appointment for Friday at 9am, and was just wondering if there's any service writer/tech I should ask for in particular (aka one of you guys :)). Also, the car is at 37k (was at 35.6k when I got it). What are the chances that this will be covered under warranty (I know the b2b ends at 36k, but I bought the 100k pt warranty, and it's been under a month since I got the car).
Thanks.

I'll volunteer if you want. (Eric) To eliminate the powertrain, you could drive it on the lift with the wheels on. if the noise is not there then the tires may be the cause. feathered tire edges can cause the howling noise like a loud bearing. And out of round tires will still balance out, but can give you a vibe still. Warranty discussion will have to be handled by the advisor though. I'll be glad to check it out if you bring it in though. :D

Just because it's just silly kinds of weird.
+2 on Eric. I need to PM you about a friend's car that he wants given the once over and probably a full flush.

+1 ask for Eric.
That is odd though, I drove that car for 3 and a half hours back from Troy NY. I didn't notice any odd vibrations or any issues.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I'll be sure to ask for you Eric.
DHGurs - It was very mild, and at highway speeds it's much less noticable. However the howl is new as of today, and scares me, especially considering I have a 30 mile drive to work every day.
I checked out the tires, and besides the fact that they're Hancook's (can we say Pepboy's special anyone?), they have some unusual wear between the sidewall & the tread. Not the normal wear you would see from cornering, but almost as if the very edge of the sidewall is erroding away. But, I'll bring it in on Friday and have you guys take a look at it. Tires & suspension have never much been my forte (besides alignments, call me a masochist but for some reason I always enjoyed doing them lol).
