Ok a buddy of mine has a 1995 legacy wagon. He just started hearing this rattle that he thinks is around the back of the crank. It happens when he takes off and once it shifts into second its gone. It also isn't always there. Anyone have any ideas?

It's *always* heatshields.:) Hack off the ones closest to the head, they're usually the first to loosen up.

Sometimes... it's the resinator.... :( Which is my current problem on the SVX.

I have a muffled chatter on my 07 2.5x forester. Most audible when coasting in the car. Checked all heat shields and tapped entire exaust with a rubber mallet. It really annouys me. I doesn't seem to be rpm dependant. Can't hear it on idle. Most noticable when coasting down hill in gear. Been doing that since it fell off a set of jackstands late in the spring.
