2001 Forester L 137000 miles. I'm having a bad stumble when coming to a stop while the car is still cold (AT) almost feels like if you forget to press the clutch pedal on a std shift car. Now all this started after Anchor Subaru replaced the headgaskets and wheelbearing for nearly $3000.00. They won't even give me the time of day and say bad IAC, bad MAF etc etc. I'm guessing they screwed up on engine reassembly. I'm going to try to clean the MAF and the ISC and have a serious look around under the hood for vac lines etc. Hoping someone might have seen this before. I'm a decent wrench and am tring to keep this not-so-good car running for at least a couple more years. I just completed a front wheel bearing job from hell. The stumble/shudder has my wife concerned, it's her main ride. ISC may also be known as IAC, Idle Air Control.
I still like Subys but need to find a new dealer. I will probably get another for my wife in 2 years.

I don't have much experience with 4eat's, but something a buddy suggested to me the other day, possibly clogged cats?

Good luck, hopefully you can figure it out, SF's FTW!!

Has the trans ever been flushed? Filter changed? I'm thinking though it's the IAC though too. It really isn't nice when small stupid things throw stuff off.

If it started after the head gaskets I would deff start looking at your vacuum lines IAC MAF not so much look at wires make sure nothing got crimped causing a short
