View Full Version : I wrecked my STI

I wrecked my car on Sat.:unamused: I hit a guardrail with the right front smashing it up pretty good. The front wheel is pushed back, airbag went off. It doesnt look like it will be totalled. Good thing I have "full coverage" insurance. I dont have any pics yet. Are there any shops you guys reccomend in central/eastern mass. If its not totalled I see this as oppurtunity for more mods.

Try and find a place that uses Glasurit paint. My uncles shop in Greenfield uses it, and when a place knows how to put it on correctly, comes out amazing. Looks OEM, which is saying something!

Only way more shiny than the side of the car that isn't painted with it. :unamused:

Yeah, but if its the front, the doors will be blended and it'll look fine. Also, you could have kept up with washing the exterior and waxing and all that, would have made the difference a lot less noticeable.:)

The only pics i got 4 now r on my phone. The insurance guy told me today it looks totaled but nothing official yet. The frame didnt impact, I hit at an angle and sheared off the bumper beam on the outside of the frame. Maybe Im in denial but I dont think its totaled. The wheel is pushed back towards the door, fender...gone, needs a door maybe. My guy says if the chassis is tweaked he can straiten it out like new.

Anyone know if it is totaled after my insurance check will I have the option to keep the car? Or would I have to buy it back from the insurance/salvage?

It was clear the day I got the car. The dirt actually covered it up.

I'm saying if you took care of the exterior, pre accident.

My insurance gave me the option to buy back my bike, but you don't really pay anything, they just give you a smaller check. I'd say do it and buy an older chassis. It'll blow your mind how quick they are!

Yep, the 5 months I had the car totally made that be the reason that a mismatched paint looked different on the car.

I found out its totaled. My insurance stopped the estimate at $21,000. It doesnt look that bad but I guess it is. Im trying to figure out what I want next

sorry to hear about what happened, you just if you cancel your claim you won't have to buy it back from them. i would just keep it, no way that is $21k in damage. even if the entoire front suspension, fender passenger's door and rim is damaged still wont come to that much if you DIY.....insurance companies are greedy and they want to sell your car for like $20k and charge you probably 5k or more to buy it back...keep the motor and part the rest out get youself another chassis to swap in your drivetrain...that'd probably be your best bet.

squeethebee
10-23-2009, 12:54 AM
Well, if the frame is messed up, a large portion of that would be pulling it straight, or having new pieces put in. It adds up really quick when you think about all the work that has to go into it. Plus, if the frame is bent, it will never be the same, no matter how good the work.

You want to buy back your car from insurance, then buy something like this

http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/1432908162.html

little bit of time and effort nets you something like this

I may look into that. I would like to put my motor and tranny into it

jessickascarling
10-23-2009, 06:40 PM
they only consider it totalled if the cost of fixing it is more than the car is worth... if you can get a garage to fix it for what they say the vehicle is worth, they'll usually let you keep it.

I havnt accepted anything from the insurance yet. Once there done Im gonna get my guys to look at it and see what they say. A 2.5rs swap sounds great but thet are very hard cars to find. Im also looking at other 06s for sale. I love the hawkeye!

The thing is, if you bought an older L and swapped everything in, it would be way better than RS spec. With a whole parts car, there is no reason to spend the extra money on an RS since you'd be swapping everything out anyways. The only difference would be the front end and interior, which are easy enough to pick up individually.

F the RS get an L or OBS to swap the guts into. There's no point to getting an RS when everything is being replaced.

I'd say if you bought you car back it would make a great parts car. Plus you could part it out and sell the parts locally or or ebay or craigslist you could make a good profit.

Parts wise, perhaps not $20K. You add in labor for a shop to do the work at fair market...and you're well over the value of the car. Just to fix my fender cover and some body work is running into $4K.

Glad you're ok.

So we never heard how much screwing around you were doing prior to totaling your STI. Hopefully you've learned to slow it down. Maybe you should just stick to suspension mods and leave the power at stock.

Well so far I love my XT! I got my first mod on the way. I will try to get some pics up before the weekend. Oh, and I wasnt really messing around when I wrecked. Im actually pretty embarrased about hitting a stationary object. Maybe the XT will help me keep my foot out the throttle a bit....at least until Im puttin down 300AWHP:D

do they do coilovers for the Forester? honestly the price of swings and springs isnt that much less than some coilovers. I got BC coilovers from import image racing (Josh) He's a vendor on here you should ask him about it, and even if you dont go that route he will hook you up on prices for whatever you do decide to get

I felt my stomach curl when I saw the pics. I hit a gaurd rail once in a VW bug at 80MPH. Luckily I didn't care about the car. I'll cry for a month if something like that happens to my rex.

whats so bad about p&L?

faSTI666
12-01-2009, 05:56 PM
Since its a DD/family car coilovers arent really necessary. I think springs and sways would be sufficient. I'll check him out though see what he can get. Oh, and whats wrong with P&L? You got me nervous now AKA.
