View Full Version : Which wheels?

I'll be getting a new set of wheels for my LGT and will be running the stockers with snows for the winter. I've narrowed it down to 3 and just wanted some input.
Which do you think would look best on a black 08 LGT?

B and C look kind of tacky. Of the three I'd definitely say A. They kind of ape the BBS look a bit.
What's your budget?

I'm not liking 1-3 either. The rivets on 1 and 2 make the wheels look cheap. The third is nice but I'm not digging the two tone.
I would do some BBS RGR's. But since I bet you're on a budget I would go with some Enkei EKM3's or RS05's. Or even some OZ ultraleggeras.

I'm a little disappointed right now :( The car is home with the new wheels and I'm not happy. When I went there to buy them I was told the offset would be perfect for my car. I expressed my concern about things I've read on the internet but not knowing a lot about offsets I took their word for it, they sell wheels all the time, they would know. I even call them this morning to see if they were in yet and asked again about the offset and again I was told it would be fine.
So I left work early and made the 2 hour trip from where I work to Amherst NH. Again I asked about the offset and they said it should be fine but we'll know once they are on the car. Well they pulled my car around front and I almost threw up:eek:....RICE was all I could think. I probably don't need to tell most of you that a +35 offset on a 17x8 rim pushed the whole thing out too much and all I could think was RICE. The manager agreed with me and might have to give some of his salesmen a class in proper offsets.
The good thing is I got $100 off the cost and learned about offsets.
So live and learn I guess. They are going to order +45 offset and replace them and to their credit they are going to give me a $100 off :D for my trouble. They were very good about the whole thing.
I'll try to take pics in the light and I think most will say RICE like I did.

Honestly I would have probably bought wheels online. You usually don't find anything worth buying in tire shops around here. At least from the places I've gone.
They want way too much money for wicked ricey wheels. And if you buy wheels second hand but in good condition you can save oodles of money. Not to mention they would be wheels that are much nicer IMO.

RE92's ftl. When you can, step up to some real summer tires. General Exclaims are decent tires and quite cheap ;)
Edit: Also, just realized that isn't the BL stock tire size 205/50/17? That's going to be quite a stretch on a 17x8.

There are a handful of hellaflush cars (very small handful, lol) that I can actually say I like the look of. Anyone who tries to argue that it isn't rice is just going to get laughed at though.
To each their own, but if you're hellaflushing your ride, at least admit that it's ricey.

I would buy online but I don't trust people well enough to put out that kind of money to something I can't see in person. If this same thing happened with an online retailer it would have been a huge hassle to get it straightened out. Shipping wheels back and forth and taking them somewhere to mount and dismount, no thanks.
As far as paying too much for wicked ricey wheels thats your opinion and I'm ok with that. We all have different likes and I don't like some of the styles that some suggested for my car. I like the ones I bought and thats all that really matters.
Used wheels, well it's true I could save money but although I'm not rich I can afford to buy new things so thats what I do. Besides, the car only has 7900 miles on it, if it was my 05 Legacy I would buy used.

Yeah a 215/45 is as narrow as you want to go on an 8 inch rim. I'll go wider when they wear out. Do you think 10mm (+34 to +45) will bring it back in enough?

Dunno how much fender space a BL has (bound to be a lot more than crappy, tiny GC fenders,) but I'd say to try to stuff a 235/40/17 on there when you replace the tires. The stretch on those that are on there now look horrendous, and I don't like the wheels (don't even have to say it; my opinion, blah blah blah.)

I would agree with tehsbean on this statement. Tirerack is definitely a great online vendor/website. You can preview what the wheels will look like on the car. Easily compare other wheels prices, weights, sizes, etc. And if you enter your cars specs (year, make, model, trim) it won't let you buy a wheel that won't fit. Without warning at least.
For instance: Here's a pic of a wheel I suggested and looked up what it would look like.
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k148/coreboy7/obp.jpg
I understand you didn't like any of the ones I suggested. But in my opinion these look fantastic on your car. I wasn't trying to insult your wheels and/or your tastes in wheels. Just trying to help you save money and get what you're looking for. :)

This is very true. It's his car he can do what he wants with it. but people can still have a differing opinion on something.
A ton of people told me they didn't like my civic and it didn't bother me. I still drove it and modded it ever so slightly to the way I wanted it. You just have to be able to agree to disagree.

Tirerack is a company that won't let you **** stuff up. I bought a set of 195/55/15 Exclaims for my beater Legacy, and they called me to tell me the load rating of the tire was incorrect for the car. The guy I spoke with consulted some paperwork and pointed out that as long as I kept them inflated above 34 PSI, it shouldn't cause an issue. The people they have are knowledgeable, and the software they use is virtually foolproof. There's a reason I recommend them to people interested in buying tires, wheels or packages of them.

I have bought from tirerack before and would have again but I wanted to use the stock tires for now and put snows on the stock rims so they would have had to send me the tires and rims unmounted and I would them have to go somewhere to have the swap made. It just seemed easier to go to a local place and get it done all at once. Like I said, lesson learned. I am much more knowlegable now about offsets, rim sizes and tire that should be on those rims. I'm just hoping the 10mm difference will put them where I like them. Once these tires wear down I will go to a wider set.
As far as the style and finish of my rims, I like shiny wheels, can't help it. I almost went with all chrome
