agreed..

last year they got anal about people 'staying in the spectator zones'.

I'm trying to figure out a way to get by that this year.

The spectator zones are [unfortunately?] very important. US rally is very fragile - all it will take is one fool on their own to get hurt on course for the event to disappear.

Want to see something besides the spectator areas? Volunteer (http://maineforestrally.com/workerinfo.html).

I actually did two years ago. And even THEN they didn't let me go anywhere except the certain zones. I had a discussion with Ted last year and he suggested just trying to pick up some media passes and then I can go anywhere..

LordBass

media passes..
OT ramblings:

Media passes, that's interesting.. I've long thought it would be interesting to do a New England Rally podcast. Record phone interviews, cover local rally teams, NER rally-x, MFR, and other events. Then you could get media passes from Rally America pretty easy I think.

But that's a project for someone with the time to put it together. :)

hey lets bring this back up again, see if we can get a list going of who would want to camp out, or even get a group drive up there for a day considering it's only 2 weeks away now

awdfan411
07-01-2007, 05:42 PM
the plan was to camp out at bethal outdoor adventure. If we can get a list going ill try to call and make reservations.

doylfish
07-01-2007, 06:36 PM
we should think about at least a group drive/meet-up if people can't stay over

FreakBurrito
07-01-2007, 07:12 PM
**** that. I'm getting drunk in the woods.

GrassyKnoll
07-01-2007, 08:33 PM
we should definately plan to head up together at the least. I am probably heading up Friday morning and might be staying over at a friends place up there... not sure yet. Anyone want to caravan up to the expo which starts at noon?

Also, I was wondering if anyone had details on all the different stages and such, I have a racers map from last year that shows specific stage information which they don't make publicly available. I'm trying to get details though so I can try to get there early + hike into the woods.

Anyone else kno anything?

TrickyDik

I was wondering if anyone is heading up there friday that I might be able to go with? I'd also need a place to stay with that person. I'm up for chipping in cash wise for gas money and lodging.

I've never been up there for this event, only been to bethel for Sunday River skiing.

Anyone want to let a n00b to this event tag along in other words? I also have my own tent and air mattress (just gotta get a tarp to lay down under the tent) if we were camping.

EDIT: I could also ride with someone leaving late on Thursday night. I get out of work at 6pm in Portland so if anyone wanted to stop by and pick me up there after 6pm I could do that.

I am still down 100% I already took friday off from work for this. So just let me know what I need to do to get up there and what to bring. I remember you mentioned somethinig about a camper. I have a tent and that stuff so I would be able to bring it.

GrassyKnoll
07-02-2007, 07:09 PM

awdfan, are you Mitch?

I am not going to New York, so I will be joining you guys on Saturday.

TrickyDik
07-11-2007, 07:19 PM
Vlad are you going up for just saturday? Or you staying over that night too until sunday?

Also are you driving up yourself on saturday? If so I wouldn't mind tagging along, I'll chip in for gas if you picked me up. I'm at work tonight and I'll check this again tomorrow night.

GrassyKnoll
07-11-2007, 07:44 PM
ones of my buddys just ditched out cause of work so i just have to wait to hear from one more person. if they are unable, then im flexible as far as what day i go up / giving rides to whoever needs it.

I will say, that my favorite part of the MFR for hte past couple years has been the Concord Pond stage which is friday night. They start the stage at dusk and by the time the last cars are goin through its completely dark. It's also not an advertised public viewing area so you can hike in and watch from the sides and it's rediculously badass.

TrickyDik
07-11-2007, 07:47 PM
Hmm, I could possibly be talked into going on Friday if there is an open seat Grass. I have my own camping stuff if that's your plan.

doylfish
07-11-2007, 07:49 PM
hey grassy, where is this stage on friday night? sounds awesome, i could probably make that depending on how long the drive would be and the hike in, see if i had enough time when i get out of work to get there

f1vlad
07-11-2007, 08:02 PM
Nick, I will go there on Saturday, but I want to stay there as long as possible, if you want to come back from there with someone else perhaps then definitely you welcome to come with me. I am bringing my tent.

TrickyDik
07-11-2007, 08:27 PM
Are you staying past Sunday is a better question.

f1vlad
07-11-2007, 08:35 PM
No, definitely not. I just spoke to Mitch, he said that there's nothing going on on Sunday, so I guess we're all returning back Sat night, unless we decide to party Sat night.

well looks like I won't be heading up after all :( my dog has been sick the past couple weeks and he's been on meds. He just stopped eating today so I have to take him back to the vet and I don't think I'd feel comfortable going away tomorrow if he's sick. I'd rather not burden someone else taking care of him with it.

Take lots of pics + video guys, I'll need to see something
