odd... if it was a year old subaru would cover it... I'd still go back to the dealer and ask WTF?

1. What offset wheels do you run?
2. What are the current symptoms (not second-guessing you that the bearings are shot, just trying to help figure out how it failed)?
3. Have you had any accidents requiring the bearing to be changed before (damaged knuckle/hub)?
4. Have you checked the torque of your axle nut?

140 ft/lbs then hammer the metal into the divet in the axle.

There is not pin in our vehicles. You will see a notch in the axle where the axle nut goes on. Tighten the axle nut to 137 ft lbs (:p to Alpine.$tar^) and then take a punch or a flat-head screwdriver and indent the tip of the axle nut where the notch in the axle is.

Most torque wrenches have an accuracy of +/- 2-4%. You may even want to break the nut loose before re-torquing it because rust could just be holding it in place. The exact spec is 137 +/-14 ft lbs if you want to get techincal :p

 Was just messing with you dude :)

But yes, do break the nut loose before torquing it back if you want to play safe.

what is this "torque wrench" you speak of? I just torque nuts and bolts till they break, replace nut/bolt, and don't torque as hard next time

 No do that with Brembo calipers, exhaust manifold studs, intake manifold bolts, or head studs to name a few. You'll get a very sickly feeling in your gut :D

im not paying a hundred bucks to have this installed, parts are $36 and a buddy is gonna do it for beer/food :)

Alpine.Star

$36 for just the wheel bearing? If so I would suggest replacing the front and rear seals and the axle nut.
