View Full Version : EFI Logics Forester Project

Jack, our shop foreman and well known for his EG33 swapped RS coupe ST2 race car, decided to start a new project a few weeks ago! He purchased a 1999 Forester L that he will be transforming into monster, lifting the suspension 6 inches, or a full 8 inch lift with the tires!

He's already thrown on a Cobb shift knob, RS steering wheel (from your's truly), and some hand fabricated fun stuff like an intake and a catless header. He also snagged up some 02-04 WRX wheels and put on 245/75R16 tires for the time being.

He's currently working on extended struts to perform the actual lift. He'll then need to fabricate much of the control arms, etc. in order to have it still be driveable. This is the tallest lift we've ever heard of for a Forester, so we're all excited to see what our mad scientist pumps out in the following months!

Oh, and no dyno numbers as of yet. ;)

Righteous! Any thoughts on gear reduction plans yet? My stockish '01 L on 27's was great fun off road, but the gears were flat out too tall for any real terrain.

Moar piks! Please keep us updated.

All I know right now is he'll be switching the rear end to a 4.44 rear end. Stay tuned!

MY GOD! Is that a shop vac air filter?!?! LOL I'd love to see someone lift a Baja. I think it would look nicer than a Forester. Still though, can't wait to see the end results. I took my OBS off road enough times to have really wanted to have 2 of them, one high and one low.

He just got a 4.44 rear diff from an '02 automatic Forester this morning... along with the final drive from an FXT, and a tranny that is a mix of 2 or 3 2.5RSs... I believe he will also be adding clutch packs to the rear diff to make it lock a bit nicer. :)

Viscous plus clutch packs?

Apparently some "viscous" rear diffs on our USDM cars actually were a set of 4 clutch packs... new to me, I'd never heard that, but Jack took it apart this morning, and there were the clutch packs... I guess the "mechanical" rear diffs of JDM land just have more clutch packs. And some of our viscous diffs ARE in fact viscous... it's just the luck of the draw, apparently. Imagine that...

OMG, that is awesome!! Are you going to have to trim body to fit those tires? That looks like 4"-6" of lift just from the tires.

And dont say I never gave you anything after the super meet, when you get to strap a bike to the dyno (barring weather)

Haha... I believe Jack said it'll just be an extra 2" lift from the tires, 6" to the struts, so 8" total. And he will probably have to trim the body a bit, not sure exactly where until he gets the suspension on and tested...

yes but the bigger tire is not center on the hub so you only get half of the height diff. when its on the car.

he might want to rethink the wrx wheels cause foresters run a 48mm offset were wrx runs a 55mm offset wheel so he is going to to have more rubbing with the wrx wheel then he would with the forester wheels(like turning radius with that big of a tire) just a thought he might want to think about :D

Another update for the Forester... the front is up! The tranny, engine, and rear diff are also on and lowered. It is currently sitting on STi springs, so it will get higher once he puts his stock Forester springs back on once he can build some new control arms for the front.

Ok! The lift itself is complete! The Forester springs are back in and all he needs to do to fix the bit of positive camber he has now is to get some different lateral links and front control arms, which it sounds like he may be putting in tonight!

The final lift is 8 inches in the rear and 7.5 inches in the front. This is one crazy Forester!

It was nicely parked next to his current DD Outback Sport, which really shows a nice contrast since it's slammed. ;)

Haha, there's not much more to see with the wagon, really. It's a 2.5l swap with cams and such...

And I'm not sure if he's going with adjustable lateral links or not, nor what his plan is for an alignment, but he's great and hand alignments, so I'm sure he'll figure something out.

I'd have to talk to Jack about how much it would be for a kit of sorts... maybe he can figure something out that isn't so custom. This took him quite a bit of time after hours here at the shop to do, so it would be pretty pricey if you just dropped a forester off to get the same treatment. He also got old struts and other parts from customers that didn't want them anymore, so you'd have to go tracking down a bunch of parts as well.
