hello all,
I'm lookin into the KYB AGX struts for my 04 wrx since I've got a bad strut (or 2) on my tein s-tech springs. now heres my question...
why does KYB not have an online listing for the 04-05 sedan chassis? the 02-03 struts will fit right? I'm pretty sure they will since its the same from 02-07 but whats the deal with the listings??? I'm looking to get these in a week or so and I've found them new in box from a company on ebay for $508 with free shipping...
But the listings... what the hell :spin:
input please :)

That's weird, cause I always see crap listed 02-07. I think the only things that changed would be the top hats, and then possibly only on the wagon.

Yeah Wagon vs. Nonwagon should be the only difference. Though it would be like the 04STi springs with everyone where the 04's specific ones are nice and spiffy compared to the rest. H&R is an example of that.Though why stay with KYB's when there are other options out there that might be better perfornace wise? Or are you looking to still keep this as comfy/performance as you can for daily driving?

You need spacers for the rears on 06-07's.

This is what I've learned from messing with my suspension over the years:
02-07 are interchangeable as long as you get Sedan or Wagon specific.
02-03 springs require 02-03 top hats, 04+ requires 04+. If you use 02 struts and 04 springs, you need the 04 hats.
There is a very small difference in the top of the strut where it goes through the top hat between the 02-03 and the 04+. This is not a big issue, but some people have had some noise related to it. If you are concerned, you can use the spacer/washer to fill the small gap mentioned two posts above.
I am running 02-03 springs/top hats on 04+ struts on my 04 Wagon with no issues except saggy butt because I have sedan springs/struts.

May I suggest tokico d specs over agxs? They can handle higher rates and have a lot dampening adjustment. Worth the extra money IMO. I would Ditch the s techs though. Not enough rate for either strut. Being a straight line guy, you want some stifness, especially in the rear.

now I don't know what I want to do, I've wanted to start trying out hillclimbs and road courses for a while now (thats the reason why I designed my intercooler to be where it is, away from the ground)
after the input I've seen, maybe I'll go with coilovers... I'm also looking into sways for a better handle'n sedan...

Coil overs are a lot of work.... Adjusting, corner balancing, aligning...
Check out Murphy2012's set up! (If he still has the spring\strut set up)

ya I thought about all that goes into them also, and theres no one local that does the corner balancing either.
I just want a setup that is nice for a daily driven car and decent for the weekend events (that I'll only be doing once in a while)

Well I personally like the coilover set up. It's firm in the corners and depending on the specs of everything else can be comfy during commute. Corner balancing great but not absolutely needed if you check all your heights and get a good 4wheel alignment. Not with out going to optimize every weekend track day and top out against the toughest of the tough in your area. Regardless spending the right amount of money for quality parts is always worth it. Like Camber plates. You should get in on that group buy for GD plates from Bakemono Imports. You saw how beefy mine are.

The difference is in the rear. The rear struts are different. For perfect fitment you'll need 02-03 top hats in the rear unless you use the washer trick. There is a trick for using washers to take care of the extra length so the nut can fully engage. Then there will be no banging in the rear.

You can corner balance your own car, but it's difficult

I will be installing a set of KYB AGXs this weekend and will do a whole walk through right up in review. I am replacing stock sti struts and keeping my GF210 springs.

Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket struts for 05+ STi's? All I can find are Ohlins fixed perch struts and they are more than coilovers.

Save for quality coilovers(Not BC's. Sorry Justin, but they are the same as Megan's and I've had Megan's...) Out side of that just use the stock struts and run a good spring with supporting suspension bits. That's what I'll be running once my wagon is running with it's new drivetrain and powertrain till I can save teh extra and find what I want for coilovers.
