View Full Version : Wheel Color Help

I just picked up some stock 2003 WRX wheels today planning to paint them soon. I need help picking a color, I am thinking of the usual gold, black, black with a red strip. But I am leaning more toward doing something less used like green, blue, purple, orange, etc. Any help would be good, and if someone could Photoshop something for me it would help me out a lot. Thanks in advance.

I dont have a picture of the wheels I bought, but here is the car they are going on.

I do like gunmetal, I just think that its real common on these wheels. But I really am leaning to something bright.

Yeah, I'd say orange, but I love orange. A dark purple would look sweet, subtle enough to not attract every cop in the world, but different enough for enthusiasts to notice.

I guess I just need to see it on the car. I am leaning toward a purple of some kind, or just sticking with the gold.

Why not sell both sets and buy some nice used 17 or 18's from NASIOC classifieds?

I thought about that, but it just wouldn't be good, because then I would need to get another set either way for winter.

i picked up 2 cans of primer, 2 cans of clear, 1 can of black (for the back of the wheels) and 2 cans of gold today. do you think i will need more?. I need some tips on how to get the back of the wheels clean. should i just use sandpaper or is there an attachment for a drill i can use?

also if anyone is willing to help me with this it would be a HUGE help, i have never done a set of wheels before. I can get you a case of beer of your choice if you are over 21, if not i can get you some soda or something haha.

Damn those tires have a huge sidewall!

The color looks good too, good job.

Black looks the best, and the gold isn't all that bad. The reason the other colors are rare is because they don't look good.

Looks like you did a great job on painting them, and gold on a Subaru is classic, hard to go wrong there.

You just find out what wheel torque your car is putting down, then add 14 and divide by 2. It's really simple.:D

 You know I was joking right? I believe its like 80 lb ft of torque or something, I just hand tighten it, then check it within the next 2 days or so, only had them loosen once with that method. I've found you can't really over-torque them unless you use a breaker bar.

Yeah, I just thought it was funny. I use my 1/2" ratchet and just feel around to what I think is tight. If you have a torque wrench, i hate you, lol.

where do i find those card things that go around the rim? doing a set of leggy 15's on friday...

Subyspeed

you can just cut up some thin cardboard and tape to the under side of the lip. The autobody shop i used to work at did that method

^ ok, what if i used index cards?

Edit: nevermind, i jus notcied the lines on the cards he used

jjdear13

just plain old index cards, they worked like a charm, no paint on the tires

Those came out great and I like the gold on a dark color car. Now that my daughter has my 05 Legacy she wants to paint the wheels also. We're thinking about gloss black spokes with bright silver on the outer lip. I'll get a better side pic soon and maybe one of you can photoshop something for me.
