1980's Suzuki TS50ER?

I have had a TS50ER for about 9 months now, I bought it off a mate for £40 because he got bored of it. It's got its fair share of problems such as bent forks, worn brakes, ripped seat and the engine cuts out after about 15 minutes of riding (we think its a fuel supply problem).

I have been debating to sell it for ages and I've been offered £25 which, after all the fun I've had on it, seemed a fair offer. My mate's dad told me if I restored it to good condition it would be worth near on £1000. Is he correct?
I aren't prepared to put in the time and effort for this as I have my exams coming up so where do you think I should advertise this bike and what would be a sensible price for it or should I just sell it to my mate?
