hey guys I found a 98 forester pretty cheap but with high miles. is there anything i should be aware of with this model???? I heard the motors are crap in the 98, is this true???

98 was the last year of the dohc 2.5 for the forester. so watch out for head gaskets. and water pumps. also if its a auto watch for 2nd to 3rd rough shift nothing 2 bottles of trans tune wont fix

2.5DOHC is a strong motor IIRC, i didnt think the 4 cam engines had much headgasket trouble like the SOHC's

Its got close to 200k and its a five speed. So that motor is the same as the 98 RS with DOHC?!?!?!? :eek:

i bought my girlfriend a 98 forester and it runs great with 158,000, but the headgasket had just been replaced. i think they are great beaters.:)

So that motor is the same as the 98 RS with DOHC?!?!?!? :eek:
i never realised the 98 came with DOHC until i sold my buddy some aftermarket parts for his coupe and the computer said the same, i was like wow why didnt they keep that going up thru 01? :confused:

huh, thats definitely not what i saw as a sevice writer for the local subie dealer :shrug:
and when i was in the parts dept. i was definitely pricing hg's for ej251 more than any other...

no the guy we bought it off replaced the head gasket so he could sell it. My guess is they are about 4 to 5 hundred?

according to Morbid's connection at the dealership about $300 with seals new if you want morbid to find them

I also forgot to mention that it has a check engine code 1427 or 1423 I dont remeber but it has something to do with a solenoid :confused:

still seen alot of bad hg's on ej251's while workin at the dealer tho :shrug:

Hey guys I picked up the gump last night for a $1000!!!! Turns out it wasnt a 98, ITS A 2000!!!!!! I cant beleive there is no rust at all and the interior is cherry!!! Knock on wood no head gasket problems for me lol. I put my 08 wrx wheels on it and now the gump isnt looking that retarded. I guess you can say their its magic shoes :rofl:

YES!!!!! :lol: I have to figure out if the bolt that holds my rear swaybar bushing broke or fell out. When I put my wrx wheels on it I noticed the bolt wasnty there :eek:

Just use Photobucket to host it or something. If it's already uploaded somewhere then just put in front of the images adress and after. If you don' tknow how to find the adress of the image, right click it then go to properties. the URL in the little window is it's adress. PICS NOW! I love debochery in the enigne bay!
