I just got the car back from the shop. I was religions with 30k trans fluid change intervals (62k on the car today) using RedLine at 30 and 60k.

My Problem: There was a strange noise coming from the trans area At first I thought it was a wheel bearing till I located the sound then I thought my front dif was going.

The issue: Every bearing in my trans was gone. Transfer case, R &L input shafts and all the others.

The diagnostic: All the highway driving I do and Trans oil change intervals. The manual recommends 30k and that's what I was observing but since the 5MT inst self cooling the oil turned to sludge and took out the bearings.
They also said that RedLine is crap.

The solution: Change Trans fluid every 10-15k and avoid issues.

Now since they had the case open and cleaned I had a new set of cyncros and a new clutch put in. He said everything looked fine but since there were in there and the car has 62k why not.

The lesson: Change Trans fluid every 15k its a lot cheaper. As for the quality of Redline

I'm thinking of running Motul GL5

Was going to run AMSOil but they only have a GL4...08 owners manual recommends a GL5 (extreme pressure service)

What about Royal Purple?
I've got a few friends who use royal purple but I have never used it other than engine oil...

dammit! That sucks to hear.

this reminds me that I should probably change my fluids this summer. I have had very good luck with the cocktail recommended on NASIOC (Uncle Scotty's cocktail I think??)

I have a pail of Subaru Extra S that I could sell you enough to fill your trans up with.

I have heard great things about that. We sell it at our dealership. We made it so customers can buy what they need so they don't have to buy the whole bucket. I plan on doing it pretty soon and can't wait to see the results.

I have also read that we shouldn't run Redline in out Subies. The Redline was so great in my SR20'd sentra. Too bad we shouldn't use it.

I have heard alot of bad things about royal purple engine oil. I know a few people who really like there tranny fluid. I would go with amsoil.
