I really don't know, some of the other guys will have to answer that. What I can tell you is I just put my second set in and it's almost becoming like an oil change for me. I recommend buying new
Cvs and not remanufactured crap. My reman units were gone in about 6 months. I Hope the new ones hold up, it's pretty common on subarus. So yeah that's my 2 cents Lol

bump

This was a chore I did not get to.
the old ones have 25 and 23 spline, don't bother with usmb unless you get a pm from a real worker of it..
all of my own have been the bigger spline, as 2wd, single range and a carbed dual range...all from oem build. No hacking. USMB thinks otherwise... of course, that place thinks I have an open diff too. To heck with bad advice and facts.

I learned of only one measurement.. 4mm difference between 35 years in length, cv slop eats it, if you do get things swapping...they do have alot correct already.

my question in relation is the doj swap for the gigantic EA stub.. the axles are great from the newer, but DOJ differences are elusive.

if it goes unanswered..
I found A1 cordone select NEW build not reman is obviously fatter at the axle. Judging from their water pumps, they exceed oe, not just meet the specs. They go beyond where it matters.

I am still curious as well. It is bizarre noone has just simply swapped stuff and spoke.

otherwise, find a brand by photos, and reputation..and remanned is a nightmare. Go brand new.

Edit:
the reason I bump this, is not bad axles. my first subaru purchased in jan 1997... had one fat axle. the rest were oem straw sized. I never figured it out where it came from. Yhe closest in drawing I found was the a1 cordone select, new build, no remanufacture. That is where I left off.
another reason is tire diameter maximized on subes that had 13,14, and low profile 15 are outdone by 2.5 inches , even on my old sube today. Someone needs to make a big one and walkaway with a billioonn dollars.. :)

Alot of the newer stuff won't just bolt up. The wrx axles are just as strong as the other Subaru ones so all that mess would be pointless. Only benefit would be to upgrade the tranny and everything else then the axles would work.

We sell A1C at my work, I don't push their product because I've had too many defective returns. I allways tell people either new or OE.

true.

a1 cordone select else it is remanned. I would swear they are 3 mm fatter.

I am loving their new water pump, less passive impeller.

Rockauto has all that pointed out clearly, and a1c has a description showing they are differenced. no chasing threads, they are brand new.
I ponder the remanned getting shaved during the process. I do have some weirdo axles.

that would be the only time to ask about this.. an abvious skinny axled epiphany.

where'd the steel go?
:dunno:

I have two skinny ones left- both remanned as "new" as of right now, it is frustrating, being careful at buy time is easy.

the only reason oem does not last forever is the cars first runs need to be shaped..axles, if all is well, end up the loser first run from new, from their on out, chassis is all settled down, run a long time.

today that shaping should be minimal, but right into mid 90s legacy and all years prior.. axles were the beaten victim.

Correction we sell USA axles at our work. The only issues we have with subaru axles are when they went to the new style shafts for the newer subarus that have both male ends on them. For some reason on take off and under power they have a really bad vibration issue.
The old style where the stub shaft stays in the tranny and you just take the roll pin out...That style axle we sell a **** ton of them and have a really low defect rate on them!

Paul you'd also have to consider demential changes. GD sedan axles will be longer than GG and all the first gen axles. If would bring your stance out nicely, but you'd need to get some GD control arms or GDA STi arms. Any of the 04' and older should go right in so long as they are manual trans shafts though if I remember. Other than that they would provide no added strength. You would do better to stick the the GC/M/F/G shaft as a replacement and if you want the added stance use the suspension components and use an axle spacer, or stick to just a hub wheel spacer.

 I figured Paul was asking recent. Didn't even look at the date. The Car's been sitting the last few days.

It's also good info for anyone looking later.
