Both are concidered "maintanace free" the Optima has better "shock" resistance, and is lighter, and cheaper, but the die hard has more cca's, longer warranty, longer reserve.......what do you guys think?
Optima Red Top: $150
720 CCA
90 min reserve
40lbs
36 month warranty
Die Hard Platinum $190
880 CCA
135 min reserve
50lbs
100 month warranty

Optima's are hard to kill even with a stereo system...
this should include a poll IMHO

I know.....wasnt even sure how to start a poll. Its going to be powering about 3000 watts of infinity, alpine, and kicker goodness, along with a carpc and all of its addons, plus all the norm, and the alarm. I already have the hi output alternator and I'm redoing all my power and ground wires with 2-4ga. My cheap napa battery has got to go though. There are alot of good reviews online on the die hard, and I have had good luck in the past with the gold series. Both Optima and the Platinum use the same technology internally. And Sears is easy to find, having to replace the optima might not be so easy.

if you buy it @ VIP, you can do all the warranty/pro-rating right there if you need to:shrug:

Thats the thing VIP wants to rape you on Optima's, to get them reasonably you have to go online, and that creates alot of risk and hassle.

If you're pushing a large stereo, look at the Optima Yellow Top. It's a deep cycle battery, so you're more likely to be able to start your car after running the stereo for a while without it running.

ahh, neglected to mention Im using a battery isolator.....not too worried about that, and I doubt Ill run too much without the car on.

the problem I found with red tops is that if they die once they are dead forever
IE if they lose the charge the rechargeability is gone forever
and they dont store well die in like a week
I thought VIP stopped carring optimas for that reason and they switched to the Purple Haze line from some other company

^^ A problem which the Yellow Top would avoid, being deep cycle. :)

I think the Platinum has won, I'll be adding 20lbs to my car but the better CCA's, reserve and warranty are better. Now I have to move everything I can under the hood back to the trunk.......fun.
