I ordered a set of 10mm spacers for my wheels today, but i also need to get longer studs. Found this awesome chart with #'s about the oem wheel studs.

oredered these bolts today as well, 60mm. a little over 10mm longer. Now my mcgard lugs might not work.

Got the studs on today, about 1 hour per wheel. The only problem i ran into was on the rear hubs, the hole which you are suppose to be able to push the stud through wasnt big enough. There was a small tube along this hole which i ended up hammering out, then taking a unibit and enlarging the hole by 1/16".

Here you can see the little tube which needed to be removed.

they stick out far, here is a comparison between stock vs Arp studs.

So if anyone wants a set of used Mcgard splide drive lugs with key, $40 and its yours. Gold.

I'lll likely take you up on those lugs! I need s second set fot the Impreza once it's running again or at least once I start rolling her shell around while working on her. Really good lugs(especially in gold. They look nice on the SVX.)

How hard is it to change out studs?

Robk0000
05-17-2009, 01:26 PM
pretty easy on non abs models, with abs you need to pull the sensor out and this wierd hear ring that follows the hub, i chiseled mine out with a hammer and chisel because i dont have abs.

After that just beat the lugs out with a hammer and pop the new ones in, tightening each with a lugnut and spacers as you go. I did each in wheel in about 45 minutes to an hour.

Ahhhh arp studs. Fantastic. When I do these in the rear of the STI I plan just to split the hub.

so did u just do the rears? i was just thinking the other day that my rear wheels could use a little spacing...

<----- look at this pic, fronts look ok, but the rears...

Robk0000

i did all 4, the fronts were realllllly easy just take the rotor off and pop out the old ones. In with the new ones.

If you wanted the extra 20mm of track to the car, the studs are like $24 a set.

ok, now my second question: can i do this if i still have drum brakes?

Robk0000

it would be the same as replacing a broke stud, except they are longer. I would say yes, just the rear drums would have to come off instead of a rotor.

gotcha, thanks

oh and would there be any negative effects bringing out just the rears and not the fronts?

Nothing really. It's just a feel of the car around a corner. You know you could always convert to WRX discs in the rear. Interested in that option?

Rob I am still interested int eh CPU and board but not right now. Trying to get the cars squared away. Def want those lugnuts. You free anytime in like a week and a half?

I'm running a 3mm spacer on my wheels. The wheels are 18x8.5 +48 but I saw them on an STi but the STi fitment is +45. Ordered up some 3mm spacers to push the 5x100 pattern to be the same as the STi +45. Not that much difference but enough for me. I don't think I'd do more than 5mm spacer with out some related mods. <5mm still stays hubcentric.

STi hubs and Brembos :D. That's why. if you run larger wheels or 17's with enough back spacing I've got bbk rotors too for the front. Zero miles on them but one was test mounted by the first owner.

you are also going to need both parking brake cables and probably going to need the 10" bolt because i can gaurantee you will break atleast one of them.

Ah. Well aside from the cables he'd be getting the whole of the rears as I will be changing out ALL of it. :D Now I just need to get my money together.

2 weeks later....how do you rate the spacers and extended studs?? Do you notice anything different in the handling of your car?

I am thinking about doing 5mm

Robk0000
06-04-2009, 07:35 PM
nope, no noticable difference. The studs stick out super far, a few people said it actually looks good. Beyond that nothing.

Rob any chance you can come to the Claremont meet next month? I can guarantee sale on those spacers if you bring them along with anything else you might want to trade/sell...
