Looking for the most likely cause, though I'm hoping it's rain related and easily fixed.

Coming home last night, my speedometer stopped working. When it works at all, it jumps between 20ish and 0, no matter what my speed is. The tachometer still works fine.

I haven't tried it today, because I was having a stalling issue as well and needed to be sure I'd make it to Amherst and back, but after sitting for about 4 hours last night it was still doing the same thing.

Thoughts?

Gear in the sensor broken? That's what happened to me less than a week after getting a new trans in the Impreza. Never bothered fixxing it so I drove for 6 months with no speedo. Re building the whole car anyways so I don't car about fixxing it as it will be replaced when I put my V6 RA trans in.

I still need to get the car inspected, so it needs to be fixed. It's throwing a P0500 for the VSS. :(

I'm hoping it's just a wire, since the motor was recently replaced. The speedo now is pegged at zero. I don't think a broken gear would let the sensor do the bouncy thing it was doing before, but I could be wrong. Oh well. Hopefully I can get under it next weekend.

were you able to check out the sensor I told you about after the meet? thats what was wrong with my speedo, when I was off road in the wrx a stick came up and broke the sensor on top of the tranny

Haven't yet, but a friend of mine has an RS Transmission sitting so we're going to check it out and swap it out if need be.

Either a bad connection or seems more likely the gear stripped. I think the gears are plastic so.

Is the gear part of the sensor? If so, It'll just get replaced if the wire isn't the problem.
