Since ITBs (individual throttle bodies) are out of my budget I have decided to build a "ram air induction system" for my wagon
heres the start of it
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg112/morbidgorilla/My%20car/004-1.jpg?t=1236111117
Just like this the car has more pull at mid and high RPM's ,and at more than half throttle I don't feel like I am just dumping more fuel uselessly in to the engine
I plan to fab up a duct that will channel air into the stock box keeping the stock filter in between the throttle body and the induction system I feel this not only will smooth out flow but prevent AHEM debris from costing me another engine
can anyone recommend a good foam filter medium that will obstruct water, yet still allow air? I am looking at a filter from a Wet/Dry vac but it seems a bit too porous

SPECIAL NOTE!!!
as I am unemployed at the moment this will be done on the most shoestring of budgets

good luck with this project
I've got no idea what filter you should use though... I've allway though that filter + h20 = fail :(
but you do have plenty of room to play with :D

My thoughts are that most cold air intakes come with a water/air separator made of foam so it would work for this
Baffles perhaps

alot of people have done this, in the attempt to replicate the gravelston air intake, however. That being said, The most effective way I have see, is flip the air boxaround,so the filter, faces upwords twords the opening, an use a AEM foam box filter
Then make some drain holes at the bottom of the torque box, I've been meaning to try this, but. I have my doubts. Also, Dont worrie about the water to much unless theres enough getting in there, in your case. exactlly 2.5L of water would have to be in before combustion to have a worrie,
The only problem I see is the filter actually becoming saturated, an then actually bogging the engine down when you try to give it some because it isnt breathing very well.
Ill see if i can digg up the pictures etc from what I've seen done.

Found it, heres what I was looking for,

That goes over the comparison etc of the gravelston to the knock off to a CAI, If I remember right

The picture I posted, is the example of what I was talking about, using the torque box an flipping it.

Glad I could help!
The only sad part, is the gravelston air intakes are increadbly rare because they didnt take off to well, because most people who had our cars,N/A abiet, 00'+ where the only real customers, then eventually everyone jumped boat from our poor NA's to the turbos.
It was a sad day indeed
Side note, I while I was doing my research about this, I also heard one guy didnt even botherd to flipp the box, an just zip tied the filter into place on the box, an took the other pice of the box off, leaving an exposed filter, an he claimed an increase in power band starting at 2.5k

Perhapse getting a junk back section of the torque box and chopping the top off ?
I use a K&N oiled filter but I do wanna cut down on the amount of direct exposure

that could work,
I want to see your build throughout, im very intrested in what you come up with!

WOW i just finish reading all the posts on the 25rs thread they beat the HELL out of that dead horse
I think I will fab a duct from the scoop to the elbow and keep the torque box for now
the extra bends will help keep the filter from moistening it self
flipping the box looks like it would lose a bit of torque

Is that Fallout foam?

I"d just like to say. Without a lot of exhaust freeing up this will likely just push your peek HP way up in the RPMs with mostly the ECU over gassing you to compensate for the extra air. I ran a CAI on my 2.2 for a bout a year to a year and half before taking the car off the road and have done enough of my own reading to take a guess at this being the case when done. Let us know the results though. Throtlebody's only a hair larger on the EZ so I"m transfering that over with my swap to free up more air flow and smooth out my powerband I hope. Good luck

only the best for my Corvega!!

She does swll the petrol down at WOT but at least the car goes faster with just the elbow off

-That pipe that goes to the stock piping, cut it off.
-Make the hole 3" diameter.
-Get a cheap plastic 3" maf adaptor.
-Now attach that surrounding the hole.
-Do the same on the other side of the torque box (make a hole!).
-Get some 3" piping or w/e (pvc from plumbing supply maybe?)
-Attach them on so it looks like horns.
-????
-Profit!
PS - reset your ecu and let it re-learn idle and what not?

Good Idea but I have a MAP sensor
the same Idea would work for a MAP sensor right? I dont really know if the engine can gulp down that much air

None as of yet my rear struts blew derailed the fab
still trying to find a filter to help screen out water

stretch a ladies nylon over the filter element, they are hydrophobic and shouldnt affect flow much at all
