well I'm trying to figure out what tires to buy and I'm not sure who to go with. I've never really stayed with just 1 brand and so far I don't really like the ones I've used in the past like Fuzion, Pirelli, Dunlop, those are the ones I can remember as of recent.
SO what have you run on your car and have had a good experience with??
I'm only looking for spring, summer, fall tires. not winter so no all seasons please.
any thoughts would be great, thanks:)

Well, once spring rolls around I'll be mounting up my Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's as my "sticky" tire. I drove them on brendans Gli a bunch, very good grip, if I get them on soon, I'll take you for a rip, then you will know. Also, Falken RT615's are bad ass. Or if you are looking to spend a little less, Kuhmo Ecsta MX are not too bad, talk to jacob about those, he used to roll them on his modded BMW back in the day.

I use toyo's proxy garit's for my snows and falcon 615s for my street/track and Sumitomo's HRT Z for an everyday cheap comfort tire, even though they are a very sticky tire.
+1 on Sumitomo, they're are great tire at a cheap price.
I've always been a fan of toyos
My summer Tire is going to be a Fierce UHP. I believe they are made by goodyear. I haven't had expieriance with them before, but they came with Subarude's OZs and they are new, so we will see!!

My winter tire is the Hankook I-Pike on my stock wheels. I swear by this tire, great winter tire. Does have more road noise then summer and all season tires but that's expected if you run a dedicated snow tire.
My summer tire this year is going to be the General Tire Exlaim UHP in 255/35/18 and I'm really looking forward to this tire. It shows good wet rating for those rainy, stormy, days up here in the summer. Road noise shows a minimal rating as well. We'll see what happens.

I'm a Bridgestone guy. Their quality has varied over the last decade but seems to have leveled out over the last few years. I've run just about everything in their current Potenza line from RE-92s to G009s to RE730s and 750s. Nice tires. And yes, RE-92s aren't all that great. Falkens are great for the money, though typically tend to have a very soft sidewall unless you buy the Azenis RT-615.
I've run the gamut on snows. Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50s were my fave, but are a bit pricey. Firestone Winterforces are great in deep snow but wallow in the dry. I currently run Hankook I-pikes, great in the deep stuff but tend to pack up a bit at sub-30 speeds in slush and wet snow. Great in the dry and rain.
Pirellis are all too expensive for what they offer, I don't care what anyone says. Goodyears are acceptable. Keep an eye on the Asian market, their performance tires are getting really good, and are still cheap(save for Bridgestones). Michelins haven't been anything special since the early 90s, and are *really* pricey.

Personal experience with the Generals on stock 05 VW GLI:
1. Though the sidewall was stock size, the tires themselves were too tall, and because of that rubbed the inner fenders.
2. Were louder than Eagle F1 GS-D3's, though they were rated as pretty quiet.
3. Wet traction was pretty dismal, again far worse than the tirerack rating suggested.
If you already bought them, I honestly hope you are more impressed than I was, pm me with what you think. For the price I really, really want them to be good and hope I just saw a **** run of them.

Interesting, many others I've spoken with differ completely. Said they were on par or better for noise then the Eagles, and handled well in the rain. Sidewall height seems to be fine on these 255/35's I have at the shop waiting to go on.

I have General Exclaim UHP's on my car. Love them for DDing and rain. They work phenomenal given their price. Even had a few autox's on them and was pleasantly surprised minus the obvious sidewall stiffness. They squeeled a lot. Also, two full summers on them and still probably have two left.
I ran Falken RT 615's last year for Autox. Liked them a lot, a little bit of fade after they got really warm though. Sidewalls nice and stiff. Ran them at a low pressure and still were plenty stiff to not roll in much. Lasted 7 series races with less than 50% tread when I got them. SUCK in the rain and as a DD tire.
Winter I Pikes in the winter, BEST snow tire I have ever used, hands down.

Well, like I said, I hope I just saw the worst end of the spectrum. But two good reviews vs one bad review... It looks good for the tire. Also, they wore very quickly, so something must have been wrong with the ones I used.

I ride on the General Exclaim UHP's during summer. As Murph said, they do squeal a lot on the auto-x course, but for the price they're a great DD. This year I picked up a set of low mileage RE-070's for auto-x. Should be a lot better.

i have WS-50's for winter right now 225/45/17,
i had KDWII's as summer/autoX and they were phenominal, Reallly Loud, gripped and never lose traction, but the road noise is Horrible!
This spring i am planning on getting Dunlop Z1's, and am talking to Jay on tirerack for group buy.

i have pm'd the nasioc tirerack guy several times about setting up a group buy, he said there is alot of interest in these tires specific, and would like to setup a group buy for a good price. problem is he can only do one size. whichever is most popular, which according to my latest message was 235/40/17. which is good for me.

My previous car was on Yokohama Avid H4s. Love those tires. I'll probably put them on my outback once the touring tires that came with it wear out. The same tread design is also available in the V rated compound "Avid V4s"
They have great grip in the dry and wet, but snow is not a good idea.

I thought about going with R comps but then I thought about the traction I would have then I started to think of my tranny:unamused: I'm thinking a little bit of spin would be better than breaking my tranny or an axle.
besides, I figured these tires are cheap so if I don't like them or I burn through them it wouldn't be too bad...I guess:o

LOL.....I know what you mean. I think you are nuts as a drag racer to build a high power car without making a bullet proof tranny and drivetrain. But to each his own, if you don't invest now, you will sooner than later.

I get what you guys mean, but for real, do you think just because the tires spin that nothing else is going to get wear and tear? Nevermind what the car has already seen before the BIG build? You need to think longevity and not whats going to last a couple of months. I will put $ down saying you will blow something up within a year doing as much drag racing as you are.

Well I'm thinking perhaps we work out our own group buy with Tirerack if we can(Hit Rob in the head till he gets a set of 18"s.) and go for a group decision on a set of a tire in lets say 245/40/18's? A little more circumferance over stock but a safe amount and most people I think would go with the little more for that extra mile or two each tank. The toyo's at 235/40/18 seemed the width of a normal 225 by othe brands and but the sidewall left a little extra to keep the right tight in the turns but still NH/MASS roads drivable. Maybe put forth a vote on what tire and size and talk to TireRack about how large and order we need for a discount? I know I need something before I end up having to use the 17's even though I've sold them to my mom for snow wheels, but I have 4.5 sets of wheels and only 1 streetable non-winter set(the 17's that are getting sold)

I have General Exclaim UHP's on both my cars. They aren't the greatest tires for real abuse (track or autocross) but are excellent tires for a hard driven daily driver, and can hold up decent to real abusive driving (used them at SLMP, was surprised just how far I could push them.)
I'm getting some "new" wheels, and I'd love to throw some Kumho Ecsta XS, or Dunlop Z1 Star's on them, but I think I'll have to wait until winter/next spring, and just move the General's over to the new wheels for now. Goodyear Eagle F1 All-Seasons 245/40/17.
I'm fairly happy with them. The carbon-fiber-interlaced sidewalls are really stiff so they don't absorb the bumpies that well, but they have loads of grip. Sidewalls are so rigid that I didn't realize I had a pressure leak for about a week and a half. Even with damn near 0 PSI in the tire, the walls was holding the car up and looked the same as all the inflated tires.
I was going to go with the F1 Asymmetricals, but now that New England has apparently become the Amazon rainforest, I wanted a tire with superior wet weather performance.

They are the best tires to use in my opinion! Also they just had a good rating by Car and Driver....#1

I can practice fender rolling on my legacy with your eastwood? I'm kind of concerned the 215's on that right now will rub when I drop it. It rubs now on "hard" corners, stupid stock 13 year old suspension.

hey ed, I'm pretty sure that Brent has a roller we can use if we asked really nicely :)

Really? I'd really like to practice on the legacy with just rolling, that way I can roll and possibly pull the impreza. Once those 205's wear out, I'd like to go a bit bigger.

Oh you got 235's I was wondering why yours rubbed and mine didn't. Mine are 225's but I also dont have the springs that you have.

You all might also want to consider the offset of your wheels which can help as well with being able to put fatter tires on. Foe those who are going to take the leap of faith and roll/pull make sure you use a heat gun and roll a little at a time after you have the lip rolled then you can work on pulling those fenders out just by using more pressure with the roller, just remember do not rush!!! and always use the heat gun to make the paint soft so there will be no cracking or chipping. When you use the roller make sure you start out with just a little bit of a degree for the roller to slowly roll the lip in and up then flat....have fun and take your time!

Paint is already cracked on one of the quarters from rust peeking through, lol. Will have to find a RELIABLE heat gun before I try it I guess.

i like bridgestone, i now have summers and winter tires from them and they both are amazing. I dont trust firestone, or those random brands.

I"d still pick the Z1's over the others. I"ve gotten to really like Dunlops lately. And for the price they beat out the others for what you got IMHO. That reminds me I need to get me some 18" DS2's for winter

I'm thinking of upgrading to Kumho Ecsta XS' or Dunlop Z1 Star's on my new P1's, but I can't decide which. I'd love some Advan Neova AD08's, but not at $173 a tire
