I was wondering what you guys though about this Alarm system. Im a pretty big nOOb when it comes to security and I want something that will be solid but doesn't need to do everything on the face of the earth. The G5 system seems good because I can hook up auxillary devices etc. What do you guys think about this + the price?

Doesn't look bad. Amy had a Clifford alarm/keyless entry in her old Forester, and it worked fine. It's only downside was being set off habitually in high winds. Remotes look snazzy.

Pricewise, it seems about right. I wouldn't go with anything cheaper, I don't think. Being that it's as cheap as it is, I'd buy it and install it. If it sucks, you can always pull it out and try something else.

I don't mind going more expensive. What you you recommend for a good alarm system (i don't want to go with something cheap).

A 21 yr old dude skateboarding got run down, beat up, knifed, and mugged by 3 guys right out front of my house in Durham yesterday afternoon so it's time I resurrect this old post.

Apart from buying a good steel bat, I'm looking for a solid alarm system with proximity sensors and also a two way remote. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm strapped for change but want to pay what it takes to get the job done. Hopefully SOMEONE here works at Bestbuy and can help with the install hook-up ;)

go to M&C audio inside of state street and have them do a compustar if you want a R/S.. if you just want an alarm, come to Best Buy, but I can't do too much for you as far as price.

^ I agree. I have the standard Subaru alarm on my STi (although I'd love to replace it with the Computstar).

I did have Compustar on my previous car, a 98' Acura Integra and loved it. Was alittle sensitive, but i'd rather have that then a car missing. :)

Best of luck.

I just bought the newest Viper alarm with responder, $350 installed, responder is active and notifys me up to 2 miles away! Which is unbelieveable, my current alarm only opens from less than ~5 feet away, somtimes right outside the doors. And i got a Radr sensor alarm trigger as well, so if i leave the windows down and someone sticks there hand inside It will automatically sound the alarm. NOW THAT IS BADASS!

Tweeter FTW

I like! Compustar is where its at! Although DEI makes almost everything else on the maket as well. 2way is nice, make sure you but lots of lithium AAA batteries. Although its going to be a pain in the A$$ to get it installed, you might be better off calling up Audio Sounds in Exeter, or M&C Audio down in Portsmouth, the shop thats located inside State Street Discount. I wouldn't be suprised if it was cheap to get it through them and have them install it.

yeah, i got the viper 5900. install tomorrow at tweeter

I only go to tweeter because i know they back their **** up with theyre word! Lifetime warranty and labor only swaps to a new vehicle. my previous alarm i bought at best buy, with 5 year protection agreement. 2 years after, they discontinued the brnad "black widow". Then about 6 months later my alarm **** the bed. Would not let me start the car, it disarmed the starter so i had to give a push to my car if i wanted it to get going. (****ing Sucked) Brought it over to bestbuy and they would not touch the vehicle with the recipt or agreement i bought! That is BS to the 10th degree! So at the minimum they refunded my 5 year agreement for $50 or something and said maybe next time i should buy something with quality, **** them!

So now i go to tweeter.

tweeter is going to screw you hardcore man. check out m&c audio on rt 1, the shop inside of state street discount... or check out audio sounds of new england, which is in exeter by the jag dealership

I bought my compustar on ebay and had the dude with the striped car on 4 off the lee traffic circle install it. He is a certified compustar tech...believe it or not. Good times and no issues...knocking on desk now.

One with a long range would be sick especially if I could get it to respond from my dorm room to the parking lot.

I'm also installing a Louisville Slugger bat on the floor of the backseat in order to respond to minor collisions.

got quotes from Tweeter and M&C. Tweeter will do the new Viper system 2-way alarm/starter for $580 installed. M&C will do a new AstroStart system for $600.

Honestly I don't like either option too much, I think I'm gonna go grab one on Ebay and have someone else do the install.

Any updates? I got my comustar for 225 on ebay and paid 125 or 150 to get it installed. The guy said he 'enjoyed' installing in subarus. Took him 4 hours with his computer, kids running around and a lunch break. 600 sounds steep, but I havent priced these from a store.

GrassyKnoll

I think it's the parts that they mark up. I think they said it was around 100-150 for hte install which sounds right. They wanted alot more for the unit so I think i'm gonna take your route, ebay it and have him install it.

Here is a post of a viper-compustar comparison. The compustar website does state not purchasing from an authorized dealer viods there warranty responsibilities. If it helps...I still like my compustar.
