I figured I'd put this in here, it's geared towards a lot of New England, feel free to move it in Off Topic if it's not appropriate.
I recently tried to get into my Verizon email account tonight, and a screen came up telling me I cancelled my Verizon DSL account= WRONG! I was scared but then I thought, wait a sec, if it was truly cancelled, I wouldn't be online right now.
I got an email from them a couple weeks ago saying that they were soon switching to FairPoint and to change my account over by a certain time. I never gave it much thought after that, never changed the account, and figured I'd be prompted to do so when the time came= WRONG (atleast I believe I didn't get a follow up email... unsure, since as of tonight I couldn't get into that email account).
Well, I also had my main Yahoo! Account linked to it, and Verizon/ FairPoint would NOT let me access it!!!
I was going to call the toll free number in the "Cancellation Pop Up" but it was 1-800-567-6789, which looked too phishy for me!!
I called the toll free number on my phone bill. A recording tells me, "Oh, looks like you were one of the customers being handled by FairPoint, here's their number: 1-866-984-2001".
Are you kidding me?!?!? DUH, I know that FairPoint acquired my account, FairPoint is PRINTED on my bill-- DUH!
So I call the toll free number, and of course, the office closed at 6, and here it is almost 9pm.
So I punch "3" for "Technical Support". I was going to take a moment out of a Somolian's day and ask them what the email freakin' said to me that I had received (knowing my question wasn't too technical).
While on hold for a half an hour, it only took moments to find my answer by typing in "FairPoint and Verizon change over" in Google search.
I read a DSL chat forum, and all of my answers were right there.
Someone provided this helpful information (Exactly what I was looking for)
"I got my email address changed
I got my email address changed, thank you to Tim. This is what I did, for a POP Email user
I did the AUTOMATED PROCESS:
Go to www.activate.MyFairPoint.net/emailupdate (http://www.activate.myfairpoint.net/emailupdate)
DOWNLOAD AND RUN THE ACTIVE X CONTROL WHEN PROMPTED
this will automatically detect your existing email accounts and make necessary changes for you.
NOTE * I did try to manually set and that would not work.
BUT this did work, and now I am sending and receiving emails from myfairpoint email.
Hope this will help some of you.
Glad I found this site.
Regards. KEP from NH"
Then, someone posted their actual website, to where you can access your email : http://www.myfairpoint.net (http://www.myfairpoint.net/)
I followed the instructions perfectly, and made out with a PERFECT transition. The only thing that didn't happen, any of my old email, read or unread, was NOT tr..... [I](hold on!!! while typing I just got a spam email in that account, either a delayed one, or a new one, about staying warm in bed- hahahaha)....... I was going to say :NOT TRANSFERRED, but now I'm not sure.... LOL! http://www.mainelysubarus.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif
If you have Yahoo! and you've created a disposable account (I made one for my resumes), it has been deactivated, and you'll need to create a new one (which was cool, because the one I originally chose was a pretty long name).
The layout to the FairPoint mail is very Outlook Express-y lookin'. Actually it looks even more generic than that!
