View Full Version : CT Ticket Question!

Hey guys,

Have a bit of a legal question that I'm not sure any of you would be able to help me with.

Yesterday, I was driving in downtown New London behind a taxi cab. The cab stopped at a stop sign, but did so a good 15 feet passed the stop sign line. I stopped behind him at the stop sign and when the cab started going, I did so at the same time. I was pulled over and the cop said he saw me "BLOW THROUGH" the stop sign.... which is either a blatant lie or him not getting a good view of what happened. Anyway, he gave me a $150 ticket. My options are to either send in the $150 ticket which supposedly puts 0 points on my license (pleading no contest) or I can plead not guilty. My understanding is that a good number of such cases get thrown out / I'd have a chance at getting it over turned, but the catch is, if I go to court and the charges stick, then I DO get points on my license for the infraction. It's all a huge bunch of bull**** and ordinarily I'd plead not guilty and try to argue it... but I don't see how the judge would believe my word over a cops' and I feel as if the risks of getting points on my license (increased insurance rates potentially in NH) are enough to pay the $150.

Just curious what you guys would do and if anyone has had any experience with this type of thing in CT.

Thanks guys

Go to court and explain what happened.

If you have a bad driving record he may not hear your case....

You should have no issue winning unless the judge is an ***

Go early and ask to speak to the prosecuter. Make him aware of the fact that you have no prior record and that you plan to plea not guilty.

More than likely you'll will never go before the judge.

Cop just said that hoping you would just pay. They don't do points on liscense anymore. That is the thing of the past. Plead not guilty and worse case scenario you pay $75.

I bet the fact that you drive an STI had something to do with getting the ticket.:unamused: Its so fast standing still, he probably just thought it was rolling.

I would def contest it. In ct, you get to speak with the prosecutor all in one visit, if you have a clean CT record you should at least be able to drop it to a 50 or 100 dollar charitable donation rather than a ticket... Just go in, be polite, and dont insult the prosecutors intelligence and they will likely cut down or throw out the ticket...

hahaha yea all 8 of mine were withing like4 years so i had to keep going back with each one i got after the first 3. all stupid stuff too rolling through stops signs, new moving radars. things you think youll never get caught doing. the moving radar thing really screwed me. cop drove by ripped the ebrake and came flying at me. that sucked i had to call one of my cop friends in another town to ask him how it was possible
