I personally am running Castrol Syntec 0w30. I recently was able to bulk up on it too. 25 cases and if you were interesting I could sell you some.

http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=german+castrol+0w30&fr=yfp-t-501-s&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8

Look at how some others are rating it.

Fantastic stuff. Engine is quieter and I would recommend it if you were looking for a synthetic oil.

FYI I have never not run a synthetic in my Subarus.

I run whichever synthetic is for sale at autozone. Somewhere around $30 for 5 qts. and a Mobil1 filter. Good deal!

I run Mobil 1, car has since it's first oil change. There was an article in Subaru Drive a year ago that recommended Synthetic for T/C Subarus.
And I still use my crappy oil filter everyone hates...:D

idk how true this is but i asked about running synthetic when i first bought my car (brand new) and they told me that if i switch to synthetic and my engine ****s the bed there is a possibility SOA will not warranty the motor if its still covered. Can anyone confirm that?

No that is lame. SOA only requires you use an oil that is certified with whatever the current standard.

Most synthetics besides royal purple are up to certification. Currently it is API SM

Royal Purple here...will be running motul on the new motor though..came recomended from my machinist..I guess alot of oils are slowly removing the zinc and phosphorus from there oil..My machinist has told me that those are essential to a motor...

Amsoil 5W-30 and their filters. Haven't put it in the suby yet...but it was great in the camry.

I'm guessing this is just a stupid myth, but I've heard Subie guys say that Mobil 1 is notorious for blowing Boxer engines.

Is there any basis for that claim?

I'll be running that this summer and I'm running german castrol for the winter.

atleast people on iwsti have had good luck with both of them.

Only bad thing I have to say for Royal Purple is it get VERY dirty if you prolong you oil change anylonger than good maintanance intervals. Just did Castol Syntec 5w30 and K&N filter(I like these filters). I want to swtich to Enoes but I keep not having the money to order up a bulk amount so I can get it cheaper. Anyone else have anything to say about the K&N filters? Been meaning to see what others have heard/think.

I believe NASIOC has a thread about oil analysis on synthetic oils. Mobile 1 came at the bottom of the list. Most oil wear out of all the oils. Amsoil was one of the least wear oils.

I'll look for it.

Found them! They were on IWSTi
Here is a straight up test using a ball bearing and oil:

And here is a thread with some decent information in it, plus peoples real life oil analysis.

Another place to look for oil reviews and analyses is www.bobistheoilguy.com

Plenty of info there.

K&N filters are nice. Expensive though, last time I was at Advanced they were around $15/ filter.
