It is all still speculation. Neither FHI, Subaru Japan or SoA have made any official mention of it from what I have read.
It's damn sexy though.

That article sure takes a few editorial "leaps".. Just last week I read that this project was shelved. Toyota's US sales were down ~30% in 2008 - everything that isn't a soft roader is off the table for a while. A 2.5T version of this car would be much more likely rated to 250hp, not 300hp. I highly doubt this car would be called Impreza. And it's not much of a "coupe".
As cool as it sounds, don't hold your breath for this one.

It sounds cool, but I wonder why Subaru lost money in 08.... OH! Wait they came out with a hatches (no offense to the people who like them) and left the rest of us out to try >.< I really hope they remake some of the older body styles with an updated look, like a 2 door hawk eye could be kinda cool :P

It's to bad that that chop/rendering has been around for about a year now and isn't a real car. I'd buy one ASAP. It's just popping up again because of the talk of the Toyota/Subaru venture.

Subaru didn't lose sales ... their latest numbers show the impreza lineup up 10% over last year and total sales up 1% over last year, thats about an additional +4,000 impreza's and +2,000 all vehicles over last year.

I have no use for a RWD vehicle and after driving a 240SX for two years, its very unpractical for New England. If I had the money for a second car, maybe, but I would rather have a Murtaya than that any day.

Subaru's US sales were up 0.3% in 2008 - the only major US automaker to post a sales gain for the year. This was solely due to the new Forester.
And last I checked, the Impreza offers a (very unappealing) sedan model. A sedan/coupe version of the new STI wouldn't exactly light sales on fire. Neither would a RWD Subaru coupe.
I agree that a GC-flavored coupe would be really fun, but that style isn't coming back. This project was originally speculated as a new-era AE86, which could be full of awesome. But none of it is happening soon. :(

I do like the looks but Subaru needs to stick with AWD and make this thing a HP monster 300+ that would help with sales.

For what reason should Subaru stick with AWD and just make this an AWD car too?
Can you explain how Subaru AWD is superior?

Personally, I think subarus AWD system is great. Mechanically and theoretically it makes a lot of sense. My car handles just as well in the winter as my full size GMC did.
