basically making a shield that will cover the alternator, a/c and p/s pumps.

I started this out of pure bordum just like all my other projects.

this is kind of along the same vein, but i wonder if there's a way to either buy, or polish your alternator to give it a brushed aluminum finish. IMO that would look amazing.

The CF shroud should look good too. Although, it'll look better if you combine it with other CF accents underhood. This summer, my engine bay is getting an overhaul, so I might take on some of these projects myself. A friend of mine that owes me a favor is an aluminum welding expert. He's gonna make me an aluminum scoop duct. Some brushed aluminum accents should compliment this nicely.

i havent touched it since the bondo, i bondo'd piece will be a mold for the final piece which i will most likely do 80% fiberglass and 20% CF. With the mold made i can make more than one and have the same outcome as far shape is concerned. I can get a new housing for the alternator too, just buy a junker alternator and then powdercoat it. hehe

i looked at a few cf engine covers that were similar to my design. And i dont like the way they look with the rest of the motor. I think im just going to get a sheet of alum, cut it to shape and bend the front like the one brandon got. then maybe put metal polishing on it to make it look nice.

Also, the cover you sent me brandon doesnt work with the current bracket. It isnt designed to mount to the plastic piece. :(

im going to try and get it to work though.

If you want I can get you a nice piece of 0-tempered Al to work with. It's easy to bang out and shrink/stretch without it work hardening too much. We use it to make complex aircraft parts by hand and then we heat treat them to t-3 or t-6. It beats that crap you can buy at home depot.

That would be sweet!

Would you be able to give it to my brother Steve at the Base next time he sees you?

well i gave up on the alternator shield, so i made the first part of my CAI system. it actually came out fairly well considering i have minimal experiance with metal bending and cutting. The edges are still a little sharp and im going to grind them down, i also have rubber edging to put on the areas which are close to hoses. Then im going to paint it flat back with no clear coat.

Thanks, im going to finsihd that piece off tomorrow, i closed up the seams where the two pieces meet and just need to do some sanding to give it a smooth look.

Just about done, i have to do some wet sanding still to get the minor imperfections out of the paint, but it looks really nice now!

I was going to put it in right now along with the bpv but, that thing just kicked my ass. Reinstalling the hose that goes from turbo inlet to bpv. WOW what a *****!

ha nice

um coin cleaner you can get online (if you want the good stuff) or at walmart. Check to make sure that the coin cleaner you purchase can do different metals...
