soooooooooooooo........
After the long wait to visit DSG I finally went this past thursday. Got there for 10am and by 12pm we had already blown one of the oil breather lines off the car and made a mess all over my windshield. Come to find out...it's not good for a stock block to be dyno'ed well over a half a dozen times (motor must have been built on a friday). Anyway, to make a long story short, the car made 316whp and 321ft/lbs of torque at about 20psi (tapering to 17psi). Internal motor problems stopped us from going any further (should've been 21-24psi) due to excessive blow-by (oil getting by the pistons). Drove the car home from DSG that afternoon and this week will be the decision week on whether to send the car to the auction or BUILD the motor (which I'm in favor of at this point).
The story continues and I'll keep everyone up to date.

I thought all the guys down there were extremely great guys, but..........I probably won't bring the STI back to them. This doesn't mean I would not recommend them to anyone, it just means that I had VERY bad luck there.

Update: Tore down the motor over the last two days and found oil everywhere it wasn't supposed to be (intercooler, intercooler pipes, intake tubing, etc.). After pulling out the piston in the suspected cylinder we found 2 rings blown to pieces:unamused: which is what led to MUCHO oil blowing by the piston.
Solution: I have another STI shortblock on its way from Subaru:eek:. Once it arrives we'll be replacing the stock pistons with a new set of forged pistons. I'm also hoping to send out the heads and have them checked for any damage as well as having them PnP'ed:D.
Stay tuned for more!

I talked to Chris @ EFI Logics and he recommended going with Moly Forged pistons instead of the CP's that I originally thought of going with(CP's do not expand enough due to the lack of silicon and therefore blow-by and piston knock are inevitable).
I think I'll be going down to EFI after the motor is back together. Chris seems like a really good guy and I've heard really good things about them.

You are having the block machined to the clearances of the pistons right? Because you want like .003" to .0035" clearance between the piston wall and piston..If you you dont allow this clearance you will have issues.. Subaru's are different there is an A bore and B bore...Please spend the extra 100 bucks and have the bores matched to the pistons if you aren't already..Also..thats interesting about the CP because they expand up to 10% from 68 deg. to operating temp..

Yeah, I've been reading up a lot about the different pistons, clearances, etc. I was highly advised by Chris @ EFI to not use CP pistons. He stated that "CP pistons are more of a race piston...." and "they are not made with silicon and therefore do not expand until very high tempatures...."
I guess I gotta listen to the guy who's gonna be tuning the car. He also has a really great reputation from what I've heard and read.
I'll let everyone know in the upcoming week or two.

Iits should have been done a few weeks ago but my machinist had some "Emergency Builds" He had to attend to...O well I guess..I dont want to rush him either...Im expecting it to be done and ready to drop in this week..We shall see though. I like Chris and havent heard anything but rave reviews about him..He will be doing the tuning on my car once it is broken in..On the pistons I was told the CPs would knock and should only be used in race applications..I decided to go all the way on this build so might as well build it so it wont break again..Also I dont mind the knock lol I guess it all depends on personal preference? I just went with what was recomended to me..Keep me updated on your build though!! Maybe we can get our cars tuned at the same time..Hopefully your motor doesnt take as long as me to finish..Thats what I get for saying im in no rush ha!

Motor has been in the shop for the last two weeks. Finally got my pistons in (Mahle forged), BUT they packaged the ring set wrong so I'm waiting on a new set of rings. Heads should be coming back today or monday. Decided not to PnP the heads due to the cost (Chris @ EFI said the stock heads are designed for a workload of up to 450hp anyway).
So hopefully the motor will be back in the car mid next week........assuming the new ring set shows up first part of the week:unamused:.

So........the car is finally back together:D. After 3 long weeks I took it out for a spin this weekend. Ended up with the CP pistons, long story with the Mahle's. Got to do 1,000 miles before bringing down to EFI for a tune. Car seems to be running well.
As for the old motor....oil was found all over the place (intercooler, chargepipes, intake, etc). Oil ringlands were blown to pieces on piston/cylinder #4.
Got a new STI shortblock, threw in the CP pistons, had the heads jet washed, pressure and vacuum tested and put her back together. Everything is looking good.
Give more updates after visiting EFI. :D
