It's an officer safety issue.

I used to be a cop and let me tell you how nerve wrenching it is to walk up on a car and not be able to see in.

More officers die during trafiic stops than any other type of activity.

I think that 35% all around is ok. Any lighter than that and your asking for trouble.

Not only does tint prevent an officer from seeing in, it prevents you from seeing out.

I have 25% on my backs, and no I didnt put it on, and If I get pulled over the back windows go down before the cop reaches the the door.

Randy, my car is 35% tint all around. You can see right through it any time of the day. The only time you cannot see inside the car is when it rains, it creates some sort of special effect or something. But 35% is safe. Compare to FL -- 15%.

Rear windows here appear like they don't even have tint at all:

I know, that's why I said 35% or lighter is good.

Yea, that's a stupid cause to get behind. I think 35% is just fine. I did a couple traffic stops on cars from another state that had a much darker tint law and I felt un-easy going up to the door just because I couldn't see through. This was the middle of a sunny summer day and on Route 101 even.

I have 5% on the back doors and the rear window and 40% on the front doors. When I get pulled over all the windows go down to put the cop at ease.

I miss FL when you didn't have to deal with this bull****, like windows going down. Where every other car is 5% tinted. Nick you might experience that when you move to South.

Police officers make a big deal out of 35% here. I got harassed for rear windows being 35% while fronts clear a while ago in my VW. But that was Nashua/Manchester area, in seacoast police don't care.

Well Vlad the only window that you should have down when a cop comes up is your driverside window so that he can speak to you.

People mentioning that they have other windows down thus far are doing it because they want to. They either A. know that their car is not within the legal limits of the tint law or B. doing it because they feel like it.

They may fear that they are going to be harassed by the cop and lower the windows any way but they shouldn't if they are within the legal limits. If the cops questions it you ask him to prove that your windows are beyond the legal limit. If he doesn't have a tint meter handy then he should shut up pretty quick. If he does and you fail, well that's your own fault.

People need to be smart, not dumb, when it comes to the laws. People seem to fear the police harassing them. If you actually look up a law that concerns you and read it, then conform to it you should have no problem. If the cop gives you trouble and you know the law then you can take the higher ground. So you go through a little harassment, you end up coming out looking smart.

I do it because I got told to get out of the car once. I got pulled over for no tail lights, yeah I know damn drls. The cop even mentioned he didn't like walking up on cars with tint that dark. He was cool checked that the worked and sent me on my way

I know I'm well over the limit, but I don't get harassed for it. If you don't give the cop a reason to pull you over they'll leave you alone.

more likely because of the vet plates, but the limits for wagons are not clearly outlined by the law. they have "suv/truck" and "sedan" and we fall somewhere in between. thats why mine is darker than 35 and i got a legal reciept ~bounce~

Eugene, I guarantee you you will never be asked about your tint, so you can put that receipt in a trash.

I used to have 20% on my Volvo and it looked great and I neever got hassled, again the point of being a wagon. Also I think being a Volvo probbaly helped the issue...

Where did you guys get your windows tinted at? I have been looking for a shop that does a good job; don't trust myself with that sort of stuff. Although now I wish I had gotten my car registered in NC then I would not have to deal with NH state tint laws.

I have 35% on my LGT sedan on the rear windows and the back window. I REALLLLLY want to match the front 35%. How much of a problem do you think I will get? The rear and back came from the dealer when I bought it (new) and I could always just claim that it was stock on the car, could I not?

Well I've been pulled over (in VT) and have been told to instantly remove the tint or get a nasty ticket. I had just gotten it a couple of months before and it passed inspection with it. Car came tinted. I didn't know that could be a crime, but at least the cop turned off his lites so it wasn't so publicaly embarrassing
