Was wondering if any of you have had any issues with running a CAI living in this area with decent amounts snow. I loved running my RS in deep snow and wouldn't want to sacrifice that ability on my STi for a relatively small power gain. I'm not interested in short rams as I do not want to deal with the hotter intake temps. Thanks.

a CAI is not that much colder than a short ram. the turbo is going to heat the **** out of it anyway. I would be more worried about water and car washes

Stock airbox...K&N or green filter...tis all you need my friend unless you have biggy turboz.

Are you tuned or still running a stock ECU tune?

Cobb OTS Stage 2, getting headers and deciding if I want an intake or not before I get protuned.

big puddles scare me with cai's...i like short rams on cars that have larger turbos/intercoolers etc. on a stage 2 setup stock box is fine...

if you do Intercooler, aftermaf, turbo inlet, and get a tune then a short ram is good as well. if you have to have a cai...the aps one is very nice.

Why dont you put the headers and protune and see what you need from there. I think you are going to really enjoy the new power youll see from a protune, but that is just me. Also, why new headers if I may ask?

<--- had a CAI, and had a minor hydrolock that was more than likely the cause of my spun rod bearing 2000 mi later. You might guess what my thoughts are with these now...

Ahhhh, I was wondering what the deal was with your license plate, I see it every day in the Borthwick lot... "How does that car have a 2.5?!"

I'm sticking with the stock turbo, so I want to squeeze everything I can out of it. Also, I figure I want to have my car in its final state before I get it protuned so I know everything is kosher when all is said and done.

I know its comparing apples to oranges, but i am running a Injen CAI on my car. I found a couple articles saying that the 08s respond well to them, with power jumps without a tune. I personally would have to go through a deep puddle really fast to even get water near the engine. but I am sure a SRI would be safer. I didn't like them for the same reason you don't. Even though the turbo does heat it up, if you start with colder air, it will be cooler than warm air. Turbo will only heat it a finite amount, that is to whatever pressure the air is at.

This is more of a personal preference mod for Subarus I think.....

I made this nice air box top that worked like a short ram, but it retained the stock maf tube and panel filter. Here are some pics. It is made of 2024 T3 aluminum. I made it at work. If you are interested I can make you one.
