OOOOoooo... can I start?
Don't keep your stock tune if you have an 07 STi... even if it is still stock!

I have one...
Stage 1 is a trick.
It only makes you want stage 2
and stage 2 makes you want 3 + turbo upgrade :unamused:

I was talking to silverwrx and kgj about tuning a bit tonight. Whether to go OS or AP
Bu11dogg2
12-05-2008, 05:47 AM
If you know what youare doing, OS is soooo cheap
kgj996
12-05-2008, 07:14 AM
And it's so much more controllable. The 08s and 09s are still kind of uncharted waters though in terms of OS tuning.

What's the deal with Si drive? Does it become inactive once you tune?
where is the link to nasioc that someone posted about tuning. i started to read it then my computer crashed and lost the linky. Put that in the first post.

I didn't have time to find the one you were talking about, tho I do remember seeing it. But I think it was one of the same links as in this thread.

I would gather it doesn't get rid of it but would take a lot of work to get it to work the same. Seems like they split the base map further into submaps to run the trotle-by-wire and all the Si-Drive is is throtle responce. That's what's nice if you get an 08 STi so you can track it but still leave it in Intelegent for comuting so you don't get raped on gas. I really want to know more on it as I'll be sticking to throtle-by-wire in my OBS with my EZ30R swap and would like options and either run a Si-Drive like adjustment of my maps or have a system to quickly switch between maps if I decide to run a Hydra. I've asked for a quote on my setup and as to the quick switching maps from Phil at Element Tuning. He's out of town till next week so I'll likely get a responce back again then. I know that Perrin Performance was very interested back in 07 to see what they could do with it on their 08 STi. All I can say tip wise(as I haven't done any yet) is from my reading I'd keep to a steady curve rather than highest output somewhere near the end of your range. I'd rather see 300hp that stays steady leading to it than a 500hp that hits at 6500rpm that jumped from like 200hp at 5500rpm. I'll be having fun with my EZ when it's running.:D

I have seen some tuners use the SI drive to switch between totally different maps, like a race gas map or a meth map. That takes a lot of work though.

paul from ecs told me today they used the Accessport Stage 4 tune as a baseline for my car then went ahead and protuned from there.

Usually stage 4 refers to upgraded cams along with turbo and other supporting mods.

Well it is COBB. I would guess their stage 2 is really a stage 1 same for the rest. I'll stick to OS or standalone with maybe some protune to smooth everything out.

seriously, cobb FTL. hook up with a local tuner to tune you on opensource if you can. keep some money in your pocket :)
Ive tuned over 30 subies on opensource, and theres alot of satisfied people floating around out there. Cobbs struggling to compete. All the info you could want is on the romraider forum, its pretty easy if you have any previous experience tuning MAF cars.
If anyone has any tuning questions, Im pretty good with hondata/crome/neptune, nistune, romraider, DSMlink for factory tuning and haltech, 034EFI (pantera), and AEM full systems. I can probably tune on anything, but id be comfortable giving advise on those.

COBB relies on people who are too lazy or not tech savy enough.
As OS tuning get's easier COBB prices will plummet

After playing around with my gauges for about 1 hour i found that there are several readouts that can be displayed, when i was looking at boost i was reading in - air vac, i had to chang it to boost 0-15psi. And with the afr gauge my readings were all screwed up, they were set of afr on a propane powered motor... yeah, that made no sense i got some f'd readings, very rich #'s. Along with that i had lamda mode displayed and was reading anywheres from 0-1.5. I have no idea what that is.
I did manage to get everything taken care of those, the readings are okay, boost is now in psi and afr is setup for a gas motor. Typically im running on gas a 10% 15.5, and really on the gas ive seen as rich as 4 or 5.

4:1 or 5:1 afr??? You should be seeing at the lowest high 9s during big throttle changes from your tip in. At 4:1 or 5:1 afr your car will not run.

i dont know how to upload my results, but here is the best i can do.
Peak boost, 3950 rpms
Peak boost, 14.5 psi
Boost at 6200 11.3
AFR at Peak, 11.2
AFR at 6200 11.8
plx on the fly dyno reading:
Peak HP, 279hp @ 4300
Peak tq, 275 lb @ 4400
all i know how to do right now is play, i cant get a timeline sheet to fit on one page, otherwise i would take a screenshot. :(
ill play with this tomorrow maybe more. Im going to use a friends unmarried accessport this weekend and do a Cobb tune, vf39, sti pinks and turbo back exhaust.
Its good for 314hp, 331tq. If it works out well i might just stick with it.

Sweet!! That must feel pretty good...Your car is soo light!!

cobb numbers must be at the crank hp ratings right? We reflashed the car about 20 mins ago, went for a run. Its got ALot more balls, low end and seems to keep pulling throughout the rpms.
The plx logger said its little on the fly dyno, 296 hp and 315tq. It felt like it!
But, i need my tranny to last quite some time still, so its back to the ecs tune.
The car is alot of fun to drive, its soo much faster that it makes everyday more fun! Im still getting about 27 mpg so far and i cant complain with the extra 100+ hp.
i cant wait for summer!

Don't get wrapped around dyno numbers, because every one reads differently. In reality the numbers don't mean much because you can't compare them dyno to dyno. They are just a good tuning tool.
