View Full Version : NO MORE SEATBELT DING DING DING DING DAMNIT!
method
12-02-2008, 05:43 PM
Well, according to the service guy at two different dealerships you can't stop the seatbelt warning chime in the 08s and 09s. Well, I had a feeling they were full of **** so I have been looking around. I tried the 06/07 method and it didn't work for me, other people had some success but it wouldn't work for me.
So I was talking with a guy who has a 2009 STI and he was able to get it to work, I followed his process and it worked! No more DING DING DING.
1. Get in car and shut door.
2. Pull some slack in the belt to prep it for buckling.
3. Turn the key to ACC and within 30 seconds completely latch and unlatch the belt 30 times. (Don't hold the latch button down, completely latch and unlatch. Some had success holding the button down but I didn't).
4. Turn the car off.
5. Start the car, no more ding!
From what I have read you need to do this whenever the battery is disconnected though.
Hope someone finds this useful!
Best,
Eric

I thought the 06/07 was pretty much the same... but 20 times.
That's what I did on mine. :D
And yes, you have to redo it when the battery is disconnected.
method

20 times makes it so it doesnt ding constantly but it still dings 6 times before shutting off. 30 times made it stop completely for me.

I see... mine doesn't ding at all that I remember... Light never comes on either.
Of course it is stuck at the dealership till god knows when, and I will have to redo it when I get it back anyway.

I figured out and easier way; I buckle the belt before I start the car:rofl: But I guess you can go a bit faster without the drag caused by the belt..

In NH you dont have to wear it, So its fine:rofl:

Honestly, I don't know. I left the ridge at around 75mph sideways, clipping a drainage gulley (two little rock walls about 3 ft apart perpendicular to the road), rolling twice and flipping (end over end, while rolling). Then I landed, about 200ft down the road and 75ft down the hill. By landing I mean snapping an 8" diameter tree with the driver's side door, flipping end over end again, and then rolling/bouncing 5 more times down the hill. Ending up about 150ft down the cliff 200ft from where I clipped the gulley.
That's the dangers of ridge running at 100mph.
And before I get flamed, the only people we put in danger are ourselves. This was done at 2am with the roads blocked off. We had to come back the next day to extract the car.
OK, sorry for the thread jack. Maybe I will start one in the gallery with the pics I have from this.

My 2008 will stop if you take your foot off the clutch. It dings like 5 times then stops. But if you start to drive without it, it will ding. I also like how it dings if there is a passenger and wont stop til the put their belt on. GF hates it but In my car, its my rules. And in her car I bug her until she puts it on:D Call me silly, but I like her alive.

So i really want to turn this ding off. i too, always wear a belt, but not when driving to the mailbox or a buddys house in the same complex...so ok, not always.
but my question is, doing the buckle/unbuckle thing thirty times in thirty seconds...does that take off the ding for both pass and driver side?
i have an 09 wrx if that matters

I like the ding. It's like my mom screaming in my ear to buckle up. It's annoying as hell but it's way easier to buckle then fight it. I used to never wear my belt now i buckle up immediately every time i get in the car it's great

I turn the car all the way on when I do it but have used this in the LGT for two years with no issues. When its really cold out or you run the battery down it will occasionally have to be re-done so dont take alarm to that fact...

Yes, both sides. It took me about 4 or 5 tries to get it to work, but finally no more dinging!

it's twenty times. not 15, or 30. not to be a prick, but I have been over it plenty of times at the dealership. (I'm a tech, for those who don't know me) 7 times should disable it for one trip, and 20 does it until the battery is disconnected. or you can re-engage it by repeating the process. I have mine disabled in my car too, but I still always wear my seat belt.

I had to do this. I don't wear my seat belt when moving my car around the block(for street cleaning so I don't get a ticket). The ding ding ding ding ding **** was pissing me off at 7:30am lol. I typically wear my seat belt but I do not force my passengers to. I will force them to pay the seat belt violation though if I get pulled over :) Never been pulled over yet *knock on wood*

Remember not to hold the seat belt eject button. Turn ignition to on but do not start the car. Buckle the seat belt then press the eject button. That is 1 rep. Now do that 29 more times as fast as possible(within 30 seconds). Turn ignition off. When you start the car, you may get an initial ding for seat belts, but it should not continue dinging.

On 06/07's, just connect the seatbelt, turn the key, and hold the eject button down while you jam it in and out a ton of times. After 30ish seconds, start the car up. Should be gone.
Biggest advice I can give is the holding down the eject button and don't try to count, just go nuts w/it.

ROFL @ your avatar.
I did the 20 click method and it worked great. I would have disconnected the plug under the seat but didn't feel like getting all contorted.
First time I tried it I did it with the key in ACC. Didn't work. So then I tried it again with the key in ON and it worked just like the OP said.
I always wear my seatbelt, but it was super annoying when warming up the car.

This seems to have worked for a lot of people maybe they didn't take the directions as literal as I did or there car is different. anyways I have a 2010 WRX and I drove 10,000 before I could get this to work. All I had to do was turn the key to ON NOT ACC (still not turning over the engine however) this worked for me 30 clicks in 30 seconds. I guess 20 clicks makes it chime only a little and 3 clicks in 6 seconds will turn the chime off until the car is turned off. << didn't try these last two just thought I would throw them out there since I came across them in my research
