I'm getting some odd noises from the tranny.

Car: 08 WRX ~ 12000 miles (I drive too much :-/ ) probably 80% highway--I drive to MA and CT quite a bit.

Okay, the cars tranny is a little louder than stock right now because of the bushings I installed with my short shift--but the whine I'm used to and is normal from all the subaru's I have dealt with. However, I am getting some other strange sounds that I'm not sure are bad or normal.

First, when shifting out of second gear, either second to third or second to neutral (coasting) as soon as I press the clutch down the car makes a funny sound, it almost sounds like a spring snapping. Not quite sure what is causing it and it's only coming out of second gear.

When slowing down in first or second gear (right when I let off the gas) the car kind of shutters and makes a metallic rubbing sound.

Besides the two things about the transmission is smooth, no grinding, all the gears go right in while shifting and the clutch holds strong. The two sounds listing above are worrying me though so I was going to get them checked out...

Lastly, where to get it looked at? I've heard good and bad things about several dealers--looking to get updated opinions from people.

Best,

Eric.

could be some bad syncros or something like that.
exeter or tricity I guess.

I never really heard to many bad things about either of them except for vlad's wheel falling off at tricity lol.

I would stay away from ocean.

Wasnt clutch shudder a problem with a previous year of subaru, if I remember correctly they will fix it although I think it requires the clutch be replaced. The other thing I have NO clue sorry I could not be more help.

It's brand new, right? Warrantys aren't forever, go cash in before it's gone. Take it to Exeter or the like(I wouldn't let Tricity fix my kid's tricycle) and tell them to keep it until it's fixed.

Is it an adjustable STS?

I know my 04 wrx never made any sounds like that with the stock gears and ra gears.

None of the other Subaru's I have been in make the noise either. That's the first reason I brought it in.

I'm bringing my car in for a recall fix tomorrow morning at Ocean (turbo oil feed line). I'll mention the noise to them. If they say the same thing Exeter did I'll take it to Tri-City haha. If all three say its normal then maybe I'll give up and just deal with it...

Randy looked at it at Exeter. I trust him, however I'm not positive he heard what I was talking about since I didn't go with him.

Side note: I took eb50 for a quick spin last week after meeting up with him at work; he heard it as well (and it wasn't that loud that day unfortunately). He didn't know what could be causing it either.

I'd be happy to meet up before or after the meet and take ride with you to try to duplicate the sound.

Me thinks it's clutch chatter.
