While the auto industry seems to be stalling--or all out crashing in the past several months, Subaru is gaining some traction, boasting 129,298 unit sales, an almost 6% increase from last year. Despite having some of the lowest industry customer intensives.

The odd thing is: Subaru owners drive their vehicles for years, pushing the miles up to 150,000 and beyond. While word of mouth spreads fast through the Subaru community, it never really seems to spread outside its circle of enthusiasts. These new car sales have to be coming from somewhere.
...Subaru owners love their vehicles and that leads to advocacy. Still, the company wasn't spreading the love far beyond that circle, which led the company to try its current advertising approach.
Advertising. Advertising. Advertising. While you might think the biggest hold up for new customers might be they may not need AWD. According to research conducted by Carmichael Lynch, Subaru's advertising agency, a quarter of potential new customers just didn't know that much about the brand.

Bring on the "Love". Carmichael Lynch's "Love" campaign educated potential customers of the emotional tie Subaru owner seem to have with their cars. Thus increasing consumers opinion of Subaru--a boost of 25 points. Coupled with the 2009 Forester's more SUV-like styling and a boost with the new 2008 WRX model boosting sales, Subaru grabbed an additional 1.5% in US market share.a

ok... not ot stir the bee's nest but here are a few reasons why I sold my suby.

1. (the main reason) Creature comforts. C'mon Subaru!! this isn't 1980!! Add auto "up" windows, power folding mirrors, ESP to all models, EBD to all models, Steering wheel mounted controls to all models, get better paint, Offer NAV in every model, offer stereo upgrades and stop intertwining the stereo with the climate control (legacy models)

2. Warranty..... 3year 36k is rediculous. Subarus have great reliability yet Hyundai more then doubles subarus warranty range and Chevy offers lifetime :unamused:

3. Be more competetive.... I payed less for my slightly used (30K) fully loaded A4, certified (5yr 100k warranty) Audi then what a new base model WRX cost :unamused:

Well I will agree with you 100% on the paint good god hitting a fly at speed chips it! As for the rest of the stuff when my eyes are too bad to read a map, my arms to weak to reach the radio and my back too bad to check out my own car I will buy a BMW, until then I am fine with not having the high tech garbage that just gives more stuff to break that I can't work on.

Addressing topics in order:
1: Subaru buyers/owners know what they are getting. If you want to get a car that has those comforts, get something else! Subarus arent meant to be comfort machines, they are originally meant to be all utility/rally vehicles, as far as WRX,STi goes. The legacy, I think they are comfy as hell, and I am not German so I dont need all those comforts when driving 100mph down the autobahn. I drive 75 on the highway where there is plenty of time to make the adjustments I need. Remember when the WRX and STi first came over? Didnt even have a radio!

2. I think the main reason of the short warranty is the people that are modding their Subies right off the bat and breaking things. Subaru does not honor trannies or axles anymore on Imprezas. As far as the other stuff goes, I feel ya, the other cars should ahve a better warranty.

3. I dont think the base WRX is 30k, I think its more in the 26/27k range, which is still a lot I agree. But, people still pay it as it is a great car that has a great reputation in its short lifetime in the US.

Not arguing with you Randy BTW, just had to throw my opinion in there.
