Devtoaster is currently developing (in beta) a program called REV to read and display live data from your iphone or ipod touch.
http://wrxfanatics.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/topo.png
REV can read data directly from your vehicles OBDII port via a OBDII WAN device and your ipod touch or iphones integrated wireless conectivity.
Rev is an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that provides graphical representations of real-time vehicle data. By communicating directly with your vehicle's ECU, Rev can monitor several vehicle metrics:
Vehicle Speed
RPM
Fuel Consumption
Engine Coolant Temperature
Fuel Pressure
and lots more!
This is an interesting alternative to current OBDII monitors such as COBB AP.

Update: http://wrxfanatics.com/blog/2008/09/update...-ipod-software/ (http://wrxfanatics.com/blog/2008/09/update-devtoaster-rev-iphone-and-ipod-software/)
http://wrxfanatics.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/picture-1.jpg (http://wrxfanatics.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/picture-1.jpg)
There were some recent updates from the Devtoaster (http://devtoaster.com) team on their upcoming REV software (http://devtoaster.com/products/rev/index.html) (see post (http://wrxfanatics.com/blog/2008/09/devtoaster-rev-ipod-iphone-obdii-software/)) and hardware--it was released least Friday however it slipped pat my radar!
Directly from the Devtoaster team:
We are still working very closely with our hardware manufacturer to create the most affordable Rev + hardware package, which will be available throughout the world. We appreciate your patience and all the great feedback on Rev.
Speaking of your feedback - allow us to answer some common questions we've received over the last couple of weeks:
We are working on several feature requests based on your input on Rev and Rev Lite--including data logging.
The hardware does not support OBD-I, with the exception of some older European cars.
Neither Bluetooth nor USB-based serial interfaces are available to developers from the iPhone SDK. WiFi connectivity is the only option for inter-device communication, thus Rev depends on OBD-II WiFi hardware. We will have some exciting news about that hardware soon.
Rev Lite inadvertently changes orientation when you take high-G turns. We have a fix coming for you -- and apparently the DevToaster engineers need to drive faster!
Yes, Rev will support both reading AND resetting of engine codes/check engine lamps.
Thanks again to everyone for the great feedback, and please stay
tuned! You can always join our mailing list or check our News page for
the latest updates.
We'll keep you informed as more information is released on what could be one amazing peice of

actually i don't really hate it at all, i think its a nifty device with a great UI.
there are some minor things that need improvement (like copy paste, etc, enterprise security stuff)
but overall i think its well built

The good news: the guys at Devtoaster (http://www.devtoaster.com/products/rev/index.html) have finally released their OBDII to WIFI adapter. The bad news: it's $229.00.
The new converter allows you to use the fully featured REV ipod / iphone software (available on iTunes store soon).
The new hardware features:
WiFi OBD2/EOBD interface for Rev. Supports 802.11b (11Mbps) and 802.11g (54Mbps).
• Manufactured in Germany under strict European Union standards.
• Easy WiFi setup.
• Ad-hoc networking allows you to connect to Rev and EDGE/3G simultaneously.
• FCC, CE, and RoHS compliant
Supported protocols:
• ISO 15765-4 (CAN)
• SAE J1850 PWM
• SAE J1850 VPW
• ISO 9141-2
• ISO 14230-4

Rev, in combination with this device, supports virtually all vehicles available in the United States after 1996.
Includes OBD-II cable.
This does not include the Rev software. Rev must be purchased on the iTunes App Store on your iPhone/iPod touch, or using your Mac or Windows computer.
