Or just ask the members involved in it on the site. Saves a lot of trouble. Hell, show up at an event, you can learn a ton from that too. You can spectate/work on the track for FREE! Tons of people in sccnh are very informative and nice.
PLEASE ADD sccnh.org to the list for local nh autoxing. Best way to start, IMO. SCCA is very strict and not as loosely run as SCCNH. There is also SCCV.org for the Vermont people!

Picking up an official SCCA rules and guidelines handbook is so a good idea. Even a year or two behind will still get you close enough that you can be ready with a quick grab off the shelf on a question.

Keep an eye out for training days. I keep meaning to do this myself but never get around to it.
As for mods... I'm just gonna laugh when the ask once the Impreza is running if they even think to put me in a lower class. I'm gonna need to practice a LOT to be able to compete at the level this crazy lady will be at.

Autocross, its like the Special Olympics of motorsports, EVERYONE gets a ribbon.
way too many classes and the class rules can be stupid at times.
play in the dirt, more fun ;)

Well we don't have to worry about fist sized rocks getting kicked up while we're racing around an asphalt parking lot. Feel free to start a rallycross thread. And no, everyone doesn't get a ribbon. Come join me in the Street Prepared class. There's plenty of competition.

for those of us in Maine Cumberland Motor Club (www.cumberlandmotorclub.com (http://www.cumberlandmotorclub.com)) hosts events. low cost and very nice people. you will find me there once i figure out how to make a VW boxer engine stop leaking oil. running in FMod with a 60's formula Vee on gigantic slicks :-)
i just thought they should be on the list.

CMC is actually on the compiled list of northeast autocross clubs. I've gotta do some rearranging in the OP sometime soon.
One of the club coordinators came up to the SCCNH rumble up in Lincoln a few years back. I've been hoping to get over that way. Especially since CMC starts racing earlier in the year than SCCNH.

Now that I either have all the parts on the car, or sitting waiting to be installed, I think I'll be running with the Vermont chapter this year in SM. Gotta fill out the forms and try to get my number some time this week or next

yeah its a lot slower than it looks. it can only keep up with a katerham super 7 on street tires and a twin turbo viper on a tight course. but a ride could be negotiated when it is running properly again.

To whom are thinking about doing autocross
DO IT!! Its a freaking blast and I am missing it each day my car is freaking out of commission.
To those who think its wear and tear on their car, yes and no.
Depends how much you want to put into it.
You can drive the car smooth and see what you can do with your car and what it can do for you. Its a great learning experience on how your car performs, and how you can make it better, rather then slapping on parts and being hella flush
Or you can be like me and want a beer mug that says 1st 2nt or 3rd place on it, and beat the piss out of it..
IE: Bouncing off the rev limiter in first gear, because your 2.0 engine sucks at getting speed around 2,000 rpms.
Seeing how far you can push your car before it starts to slide out, or over/under steer.
and my favorite, how to simulate drive by wire/ecu launch control with your right foot :D I have alot of heat cracks on my pressure plate
Like I said its how much you put into it, you can just go out and have fun with the car and go easy and learn it. No one will make fun of you, just encouragement, and pointers.
Or see who can get the fastest time among your friends, and get a drinking mug :D
I prefer this over then car shows, because you get the cars, you can look at them and talk about them, and then watch them race and do some racing your self ;)
Now some one let me co drive their car.. I need my fix!!

I autocrossed for my first time a couple weeks ago and am officially hooked. Most fun I have ever had in a car. I also attended the school the day before, which focuses on car control and gets you very comfortable with the limits of your car.
If you don't have the most mods or the best tires it doesn't matter. It's all about having fun and developing your skills. Hell, the 2nd fastest Subaru (by .5 seconds), was a bone stock 2008 STi.
I was no where near the top of the group, but it was fun seeing how my times improved. First run of the day was 1:28, my last run was 1:16.6.

you definately showed the most improvement last weekend.
Definately a great time.

I dotn see your times up on the board. i had a 10 sec faster best lap by the end of the day.
http://sccnh.org/autox/autox_2_2010_fin.htm
Im still boggled as to how the 08 sti just destroyed everyones times. For being stock, he is faster and outhandling every modified vehicle out on the track.
Im calling BS on the Stock class.
DHGurs
06-15-2010, 07:55 PM
I know that was ridiculous. He definitely sounded (and looked) stock, but who knows.
11 SM 111 Gary S 2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Black 88.318 80.545+1 78.197+OFF 78.923 77.042+1 76.640
Those were my times, I apparently couldn't read the rules and registered for the wrong SCCNH class, but in the right national class.

I autox for three years with Boston Bimmer club (Boston Chapter of BMWCCA). They run at Devens, MA and are bunch of great people. Plus, you get 8 runs per day.
We run as dual-driver vehicle (my wife also does autox), so 16 runs per day (8 as driver and 8 as passenger) are wicked fun :)
