View Full Version : Just a DP?

How well would just a cobb DP do with the stock catback vs the whole cobb turbo back? Is there a huge difference? Because I was told that the downpipe shrinks to the stock exhaust diameter anyway.

Cobb dp goes from 4" flange to about 1 ft before the end of it, then its 3". I was planning on going with the cobb dp but its $600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

going with invidia...pocketchange. :)

imprezas have so many options for brands. i honestly dont know why anyone would pay cobb money.

If I were you Tom, go full. Start at the muffler and go back to the turbo otherwise. If you change the DP, you need to get a tune or engine management.

I had a invidia v2 catless dp with the cobb catback and its one of my fav setups.
I used an adpater from wbr to go from the 3" flat flange to the stock 2.5" donut gasket though.

when I throw my green in I think I'm going with the cobb catback again but modify the 2.5" bottleneck to full 3".

but I ran my dp with the stock sti catback and it wasn't that big of loss of power.that was on the stage 2 cobb ap map though.

I agree that the cobb dp's are $$$$ but there catbacks are worth it hands down.

There are some vendors on nasioc too, that have axlebacks and turbobacks that they sell and arent expensive due to the name. They are the same as the rest, piping and converter. You pay for the name on a lot of aftermarket products.

here's the thing; I have a map for it already, I would just need to load it into my ecu, but I am planning on an AP for the future. I just dont see the point to get a catback if it is the same dia. as my stock STi exhaust. Of course, unless it isn't and I'm crazy wrong about it... which has been known to happen.

Then get the whole damn turboback! My cars exhaust goes 4" DP to 3" cat and mid pipe, then 2.5" axleback and still rips through. I know guys putting down 350whp with 2.5" exhuasts....I also dont like my car obnoxiously annoying but a lot of people do.

Are you going with a catless dp or a high flow cat? The main thing with the catback exhaust is it will get rid of the stock cat (unless the STi exhausts are catless, I know their uppipes are not sure about exhaust). Also if you buy an aftermarket exhaust make sure that it comes with a 3" flange to bolt up to the aftermarket DP, if you go with the cobb turboback it will but if you buy a cat-back from one company and dp from another it might not, my hush had the stock dp flange on it but it was sleeved so I made and slid a 3" flange in. If you just get the DP you are gona have to get creative with how you seal it, a donut gasket will leak but you might be able to find a way.

I just sent out 10 pm's on nasioc about catted dp's.

I have one question which i cannot figured out with all my knowledge. What is a divorced dp and is it better worse or does it mean anything at all?

I pm'd someone on hear about the cheap dp, but i think might be going with the invida. Seems to be a good deal on nasioc. especially the catted ones.

it is the ones that have the seperated wastegate runner compared to the bellmouth style.

I went with a bellmouth due to it was cheap. I would think the bellmouth would flow better but not 100%

tial bov rob?

I had one and it didn't work out so good on a tmic.

wait till you see how stiff the spring is.the guy I bought it from gave me a refund.

It just wasn't opening up at all and it made my car run like ****. I used a few diffrent springs also.
nate looked at too and we couldn't come up with anything.

If your set on a bov I would run with a hks or forge.

i bought the UR tial bov, it comes with a 9 lb spring or something which is 12 psi or so, it says on the tial website it would work fine on a stock sti. I figured since its and Sti turbo and tmic it should be fine. We will see.

Now i know if it sounds wierd you were right.
