Makes me want one. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/board/viewtopic.php?id=25240

For those who haven't heard of the $200X Challenge, it's held by Grassroots Motorsports Magazine. You goal is to buy a car, prep it, and race it, all for the dollar amount of the event's year(ie, 2006 was $2006, 2007 will be $2007), and this includes ALL supplies that'll end up in the car; paint, fluids, everything. Safety equipment is the only thing that's free. All mods/fabrication are allowed. The Challenge includes a 1/4 mile drag, autocross, and a show n shine judging.

Other famous Festivas from the Challenge includes one with it's rear subframe cut out and a Taurus SHO drivetrain/suspension installed.

The $2006 winner was a 1988 RX-7 with a used, built Chevy small-block V8 drivetrain. It ran a sub-11sec. 1/4 mile and the owner used a mere $1721.72 of his budget.

That car is so hot. I've got video somewhere of it before paint/suspension/brakes, with the lil stock rotors glowing red hot after a breif drive around the block. Love it.

345hp in an engine that you and I could pick up is pretty darn cool.

The more I watch that thread, the more jealous I get. I know the current Impreza is considered a "compact", but it's almost too big for me. I miss the small cars. If they were to rerelease the early '90s US-model Justy or Loyale-body cars, I'd be first in line to buy one. Given the recent success of the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, Scion xA(failure)/xB, Chevy Aveo, Suzuki Aerio and Reno, misc. small Kias, and the other sub-compacts, I'd think Subaru could bring something small back to this country. Bastiges.

AHA! Took some digging, but I found the aforementioned Festiva/SHO hybrid from the Grassroots Motorsports $2005 and $2006 Challenge.

The guy built it at home for under $2000. More pics here: http://www.fordfestiva.com/gallery/grassroots_festiva_shogun.htm

Ack, I logged on to GRM.com this morning only to find that the creator of this car died yesterday morning. Still trying to find details...
