On craigslist I ran across this post http://nh.craigslist.org/pts/659779998.html
Basically someone selling the rear calipers and rotors from a 04 STI... Someone please chime in and tell me more about this type of swap? Is it a decent price? Things I should consider?
I need rear pads and rotors, so this is might be an option.

You also need special rotors unless you go my route. Also an adapter made by kartboy to fit the bolt spacing.
It would be a great upgrade to your car adjusting Bias really well for a lot shorter stopping distance.
For 400 I would do it. You are looking at a total cost of about 600ish to have them all said and done.
I can give you more detail on how to make your parking brake work either the way I did or another way.

Ya I would pay the $195 to get the mounting kit... but theres no room in my brake budget to get the $459 rotors.
I have to do something with my rear brakes though... they have been crap since I bought the car

The other thing you can do for about 150 bucks is have this place in connecticut make you some custom brake shoes to fit the larger rotors.

If you need to do back brakes on your wrx but don't want to spend alot. Look into the h4 brake upgrade for the rears.

You mean the H6 upgrade, silver? I was thinking about this. Different bracket + bigger rotors.

I have been doing some research and ultimately the H6 is a great upgrade for me to consider... as the kit supplies me with everything I need to replace. What would yield better performance, the H6 kit or just upgrading to performance pads and rotors?

If youre going to spend money to upgrade brakes....get something like a used brembo setup, endless setup, stoptech setup, willwood setup, whatever. If you want to go cheap, get a nice set of rotors and pads for your current brakes, and save up for a sweet set of brakes. Honestly, I wouldnt have gotten my brembos, cause the stock 06+ brakes are really really good, I just got a stupid good deal on them. In fact, I would probably even trade MY brembos + cash for a set of 06+ WRX brakes.

Were the rear rotors on the stock 06 setup vented or solid?

Vented.

Thanks Nate... I'm really thinking about getting the rear brembo calipers/rotors and jerry-rigging the ebrake.

Yeah I am going to install mine today. Then I will know 100% if what I did works. If it does then it is a great solution for rear brembos on WRXs.

YOure only saying that because they were not working to full potential at the races.
Trust me.

Since i have possibly every modification done to my car already, i wanted to gather a bit information on brake ducts. Since i dont race on track constantly i would think they would be pointless?
But if i were to fab somthing up, would it cut down on brake dust lying onto the wheels? I mean would it blow away, im only debating doing this because the bumper has a perfect location for ducting it to the inside of the wheel, and at the same time i can duct up to the intake and get some colder air.
Think i would be wasting my time, or should i go out and buy the $10 worth of duct and zipties?

First, there is MUCH more you can do to your car, you certainly do not have every possible thing done to it.
If you plan on really tracking it often, ducts are a pretty good idea. I am sure you can make some nice CF ones!
Robk0000
11-29-2008, 04:09 PM
the inlet will probbly be CF, but the piping will be regular ducting.
What exactly did you have in mind? im not looking for power, braking, suspension, appearance depending on what i hear, but i think the car is pretty much done after i do the doorpanels, and change the floor mats. I may get rid of the 3 hole gauge pod and do some fiberglass work around the radio. But, im not looking to spend anymore cash on the car.
Fiberglassing, i can do, i have enough material to cover the car twice! lol
give me some ideas

Well, I was just being literal in saying there is plenty more to do to the car! Cage, Driveshaft, tranny, etc just off the top of my head. I think they would be a cool project, but I mean, really, you dont track the car yet, and if it something youre going to be doing a lot this year, then why the hell not?!

you know about the transmission situation already, im thinking smaller items though. The only big ticket item i plan on doing next year is drivetrain, either ppg gears or wrx transmission. whichever one i impluse buy first.

i know, lol. i was just saying i need to get a package deal, differentials, axles and tranny... and im not looking to spend more than 1k. :)
i know you want atleast that much for just the trany, we will see.
i am not looking to buy anyhting right now or anytime inthe short future. I need to reseach as i know nothing to ratios and drivetrain.

research has been done.
Stock L has a 3.90 ratio, not the 4.11 like i have been told by almost everyone i have talked to. (the 4.11 and 4.44 are RS models ONLY) This means, all i need is a transmission from a wrx, any post 03 model which would significantly reduce the price of the swap. correct?

you can also look for a set of 05+ legacy GT rear rortors.
They're by no means Brembos.... but the are 14", 2 pot compared to the -05 wrx 1 pot.
They can be had for about $200 a set, used.
With braided lines and hawk pads they are a great setup.
