What's up everyone. :wavey:

Been leeching around the site for a few weeks. Finally caved yesterday and bought a 2006 CGM WRX TR Sedan @ Subaru of Nashua. Traded in a 97 VW GTi VR6, that had some pretty decent mods. Gonna miss it, but love the WRX.

Looking forward to modding once I get a bit of a positive cash flow.

Some background info:

live in newmarket currently, Computer Science graduate from UNH ( not your average CS kid though, got ill social skills).

hmm, lived with Murphy for a while when at school. i test wireless networks @ the UNH IOL for my current job. (http://www.iol.unh.edu)

This is the car i just picked up:

Welcome pal! It's about time you got yourself a Rex! Welcome to the club and the forum, and take good care of her!
Ya, 1.8L is teh noobness. If you want to donate, which I highly recommend, you can get yourself priveleges of custom titles! :D

What was your screen name on vortex? I was there all the time before I sold my VR6. Miss it sometimes.

screen name on vortex was also jonny-rockets - not as active there as on bentley-tech, but definitely appreciated the detailed walkthroughs and pic diagrams people would post on vortex - great community.

good to see a forum that's active like this one.

i have to agree, vlad - i read a post of yours in another thread earlier regarding the sound of the vr6 engine - like none other.

definitley a nice ride - personally i am not so into the STi seats, the only interior part of the STi i like is the gauge cluster - i think the all red is sweet.

so i've been thinking about what my first mod should be - is there anything that can increase MPG?

i suppose the COBB access ports can do this, about these: what's the difference between v1 and v2, and how difficult is it to get it to
divorce from a previous marriage? (lol)

lookin at this guy:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-Subaru-WRX-STI-Cobb-Accessport-v1-0-LOW-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ230236221518QQcmdZViewItem?hash=i tem230236221518

does that only work for an STi?

I may be wrong but I don't think it'll work for WRX. Again I don't remember. I used to have cobb access port.

Another option for you is to reflash for free, you can find all sorts of maps on this forum: http://osecuroms.org/. I have cable, cable only costs $60 or so. Then you can use your laptop to reflash.

I personally use this stage 2 map: http://www.plasmatize.com/osecuroms/viewtopic.php?t=379&start=105, which am going to fine tune on Dyno next month.

super easy... should be a plug next to the hood release under the driver side dash.

the main difference between the v1 and v2 are

a) connector type (v2 uses usb between screen and plug)
b) screen (v2 has a color screen)
c) compatibility(v2 works for all turbod 2.5's, whereas v1 has to be engine, make, year, and tranny specific or it wont work at all)

Do you know Dave Estes? He also works at the UNH IOL.

Welcome to the world of subies man. Terry was telling me about your ride. Now I'm not the only one with crystal grey. Maybe catch you at the meet tomorrow.

Yup sure do. So does Brad. He doesn't work in my consortium but I see him around.

That open source tool might be the way to go. I have an OBDII cable already, wonder if I can get it to work - goes to a serial port.

I used to use this with Ross-Tech VAG-COM software on my VW - you are probably familiar with this vlad.

Sounds promising.

do your homework before getting an AP

here is a good place to start...

AP v1 is year, model, and tranny specific. You cannot use another model (aka sti) AP nor one for a diff MY.

AP v2 works for all 2.5L suby engines. Not year specific, model specific, or tranny specific.

Your year may require u to get a v2. You will have to do some research. Dont expect the AP to save u on gas though unless ur planning on running econo maps or 89 octane. you can probably trade ur TR straight up for a focus if ur looking for mpgs and mp3s... lol

thanks for all the warm replies!

Yeah I don't plan on buying anything without doing my homework first. My plan was loading the image for economy mode for town driving, and flash over again when I want performance.

About the focus: man that has got to be the ugliest car - plus I would never buy a ford - they currently have the highest hourly rate for repairs in the US! (well certified, meh).

I'll keep my eye out for the v1 make for my car. Does anyone know if the open source tool can flash between economy and performance? Also, on average how long does this flash take?

Should I bump this into a new forum since we're getting kinda off topic from my introduction?

Also drove the rex for the first time today in the snow. Handles like none other. Definitely sex.

holla back
