A bit of background first, 2.5 hybrid, VF-39, STI cams, deatschwerks 565cc’s, and a tune

The issue: about a week or two ago the car started to idle rough, shortly after I got a CEL, p0171, and then it got worse and P0300, P0302, and P0303 joined the party. If I clear them, it will come back on after letting it hot idle for 1-2 mins, and would never come on if I could keep revs above 1500 at all times while driving it. While it is idling it does have a pretty good shake to it and has stalled on occasion, runs smooth in upper rpm ranges. To this point the hybrid has 5k mi on it, and ran perfect up until the CEL’s. To the best of my knowledge I am most likely having issues due to A- MAF sensor, or B – front 02 sensor. There is also a possibility that I skipped a tooth on the timing belt-doubtful.

Any additional input would be helpful, but the real reason for the post is to locate a generous enough person to let me borrow an 02 sensor/MAF sensor to try to determine which $250 part I need to buy.

Thanks
BRAD

Those prices sound high for what problems you are having.

I'll look the codes up later and tell you exactly what the service manual says to do for the repair procedure.

got quoted 200 for the front o2 sensor and 250 for the MAF sensor

The troubleshooting steps you mentioned would be great if you get a second to look em up

I will be replacing the clutch on this thing on Sat 3/29 if anyone is bored or interested and wants to watch/help/supervise/drink let me know, ill send ya directions

What time saturday? I am always game for helping with installs. I love suby installs.

Also I can get you this number Bosch 15537 Front oxygen sensor for like 140 or 150.

Napa and places like that have maf's for cheap too.

You could try cleaning the MAF. I did this with my VW a few weeks back and it improved gas mileage and fixed my DTC.

Be Careful what you clean it with though, you gotta make sure whatever you do, you leave no reside on the sensor itself, and never touch it directly.

CRC makes a product designed especially for this. You can get CRC MAF cleaner, or the CRC QD Electronics cleaner to clean it with properly. Their MSDS sheets are identical (same chemical, hexane isomers or something like that).

So is the clutch done yet?

clutch is done, finally... I had never done one before and learned the hard way how to do it right. Took me a total of 4 engine/trans remove/fix clutch and put back together. I had the circlip around the TO bearing installed wrong and it came off after ~50 miles, when it comes off the clutch is stuck engaged, stupid pull type clutches.

Hybrid motor build uses the STI 2.5L shortblock with the stock 2.0 heads

And thanks again for the help nate

PS - last time I removed engine to fix the clutch it took me 5 hrs flat, If anyone attempts this there are many shortcuts to use..
