Well, the time has come to clean up the light wheels, get new pads, and lower the coil settings (well, for people that can afford coils) and get back on the track! I am going to post up the race schedule for this season, most of which is at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. I will be in Belmont for the first half of the season most likely, and as always welcome people to come up to volunteer or race! I live about ten minutes from the track and have no issues with you coming up the night before. Here is the list, Happy Racing! :D

Looking forward to this Season. Hopefully I will be able to get the Suby completed by the start of it!

Hopefully I'll buy a helmet so I can run.

03-12-2008, 12:40 PM
Nate, lets get busy! Bring it to the shop, you can leave it there, and we can work on it as much as possible. Unless its too far for you to travel to work on daily, lets get it going!

Brian, I have an extra helmet, maybe two, that are approved and you can purchase for the thrifty price of $25! Let me know! :D

Nate8409
03-12-2008, 02:14 PM
It is not the distance. I wouldn't mind cause we could work for multiple hours per day anyway until somewhat late.

Then once the motor is out it is going to take time to dissemble it anyway and ship the heads out then wait for them to come back. I would rather do it at your place anyway instead of my friend here. I don't really want anyone I don't trust with a wrench near it once it is take apart.

Looking to get out there this year. Does anyone have any firsthand experience with the school? I think I'd be interested in doing that if I know it's worth it. Also if I do, I might take one of them helmets Terry if you still have them around, good deal.:)

Murphy2012
03-12-2008, 02:53 PM
I havent had any experience with the school, but at each auto x you can take you runs with teachers, at no charge. You can have them drive the vehicle with you in it, untimed. Then, you can make your actual timed run with the instructor in the passenger seat. The first race I did, I had an STi owner/instructor ride with me. Luckily, I have had years of moto x riding under my belt so I understood the basics of racing, ran a really good first run. The instructor actually told me there was no need for him weighing the car down and just to go about racing and make the adjustments I thought I needed. I ended up taking 8th out of 24 in my class my first time.

As far as the helmets go, Ill tally up what I have and let ya'll know!

I'll be autocrossing this summer again for sure. I'll be skipping the busy ones though because only getting 4 runs sucks nuts.

TrickyDik
03-13-2008, 02:48 AM
I might come out to spectate during some free time if Terry or Nate will be there. No racing for me though.

School is a waste of time, just get in your car and drive fast!

just kidding, i never took the school but one of the dudes there not a instructor gives great tips and is very helpful. i will be at every event as usual, predicting rain for the season. :)

I have to hit the track a few times this year. I'll be a lot closer moving to middleton nh the end of the month.

I keep seeing this thread and can't friggin wait for this!

Kevin
03-16-2008, 03:20 PM
what class would my sti put me in?
its mods are cobb stage 2 map
invidia catless dp and prodrive axel back.
not sure if having a wingless trunk changed what class I would be in also.

and I'll I should need is a snell 2005 helmet.

Murphy2012
03-16-2008, 03:31 PM
^^ You would be in SM with me. You could not tell them that you have the AP, cuase they wont check if you do, and run in STU. might be a good thing to do for your first time. Although, there isnt much competition in the SM class. A SICK 200sx with an sr20 and all kinds of work, a built MR2, a 69 camaro SS, an 06 STi with an AP stage 2, and thats typically it. I am going to run in this class cause my raw times werent far off from most of them, faster than the camaro mostly. I hope with the new suspension/tire setup I might be a little closer.

Kevin
03-16-2008, 06:26 PM
I need to suspension soon but buying the house crushed all my mods for now lol.

how much to the events cost. I've only been to one at fort devins like 3 years ago in my 04 wrx.

Robk0000
03-16-2008, 06:57 PM
$50 if your not a member, be a member pay $25 first event and it will drop the cost to $40.

Murphy2012
03-16-2008, 07:18 PM
Your sti will be just fine racing there...promise...

Kevin
03-16-2008, 07:31 PM

anyways, what would a fwd aftermarket supercharged car go in? would i even be competitive? stock suspension ftw!

Robk0000
03-17-2008, 07:28 PM
they have not arrived jack arse. Plus i dint wanna tell you. Anywho, you would be in Super slow, SS.
GET IT!!!!!!

Kevin
03-20-2008, 08:12 PM
can't wait.

I hope I can get some springs in time for this. I'm thinking rce yellows or blacks not sure yet.

Murphy2012
03-20-2008, 10:40 PM
Yellows if you dont mind the drop....Black if you want just a little bit less stiff rates and just about the same ride height....if that makes sense.

Kevin
03-21-2008, 09:56 AM
I think I'm going with the yellows.then run with coilovers down the road.

Murphy2012
03-21-2008, 11:47 AM
Ya, I am going with Yellows too in my new setup. Not sure if you saw my post in the suspension thread. But I am getting Tokico D Specs, RCE Yellows, Adjustment Extenders, Camber Bolts, and the washer mod. Soon after that will be whiteline camber plates. :D

Kevin
03-21-2008, 12:53 PM
nice I'm at subaru of exeter getting my rear struts done for the dreaded clunking sound. I don't think I have as many options as you for struts though. I have to talk to rce and tic.

Nate8409
03-21-2008, 01:39 PM
You can always do inserts in the struts from koni.

If you do want to do that get you struts back! Then you can have an extra set of housings to fit with the inserts.

Kevin
03-21-2008, 02:10 PM
oh didn't know that. who sells them for a 06 sti?

Kevin
03-22-2008, 01:03 PM
found this link.http://www.iwsti.com/forums/suspension-handling-stiffening/85406-ground-control-koni-coilovers-incuding-2005-stis.html

I think I'll end up going with this setup looks pretty good.

Skidder
03-22-2008, 01:21 PM
Ground Control FTMFW... I cant vouch for their Subaru kits but their BMW ones own just about everything.

Kevin
03-22-2008, 01:26 PM
it looks like a killer way to go in stages

Skidder
03-22-2008, 01:41 PM
and cheap! I wonder if they offer anything for non-sti's?

Murphy2012
03-22-2008, 03:24 PM
Ya, they have them for WRX's and STis. Ground Control has their own website. Check it out. http://www.ground-control-store.com/index.php

Robk0000
03-22-2008, 03:38 PM
My brother had them on his sunfire. They were sweet but, the coils kept getting frozen. The alan screw you use to adjust the coils always got stuck. It was very difficult to adjust at times as well.

But they rode very good, stiff as hell and even low body lean without a rsb.

Kevin
03-22-2008, 05:12 PM
nice I think I'm buying the coilover kit then going with the koni inserts later.
I just have to figure out what spring rate. I don't think my car will see to many winters so they should be good.

Murphy2012
04-16-2008, 06:28 PM
Bump for the first race NEXT WEEKEND! WOOT!

Murphy2012
04-16-2008, 06:37 PM
oh didn't know that. who sells them for a 06 sti?

Most STi drivers use WRX rear struts for their Koni housings, FYI.

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 09:13 AM
Am I really going to be the only one racing this weekend?! All this talk from all of you but nothing yet?!

jonny-rockets
04-17-2008, 10:03 AM
where are the auto x events held at? are there any pics of the course layout?

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 10:26 AM
Read the OP.

jonny-rockets
04-17-2008, 10:29 AM
aHA! any pics of course layout or are they supposed to be a surprise or something?

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 10:38 AM
Pics of course are usually given a few days before the race. I usually just show up there and walk it a few times. There are instructors that will ride with you, or even drive your first time, and kinda explain to you what they think you should do. You ride with an instructor, doesnt count as a run.

Skidder
04-17-2008, 11:19 AM
This weekend? I'll already be at NHIS to watch BMWCCA club racing... I thought the autox was scheduled for next weekend?

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 11:22 AM
It is next weekend, I was just bumping it now getting people ready!

Skidder
04-17-2008, 11:33 AM
oh ok... I'll be there next weekend too then. What class do I run now that I'm STG2?

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 11:40 AM
Technically you are supposed to be SM, cause yuou have a modified ECU. But, you can still run in STX....thats what nate ran in.

Nate8409
04-17-2008, 12:35 PM
I run in STX because that is what I am when I go.

You can play with the ECU in STX as long as you don't change boost.

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 12:47 PM
Thaaaaat's what it is. Well, technically, I have a turbo swap, but stock boost. STU it is!!!! But seriously, I am just going to run in SM this year. I might as well, my times last year were competitive with most of the SM'ers and I have a few more things/experience to offer this year.

Nate8409
04-17-2008, 12:49 PM
hahaha yup. You are definately SM. You can easily compete with them if you get some good tires and an alignment.

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 12:51 PM
Yup, alignment is getting done next week. I am going to see if there is a way Ken might want to swap rims with me for the weekend so I can use his bbs/re070 combo. Tokicos are going to get dialed in to the stiffness I want. Hopefully gettting the 39 tuned this week too, maybe even Sunday!

Nate8409
04-17-2008, 01:18 PM
If you were hell bent on having some RE070's then you could borrow mine.

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 01:24 PM
Not completely hell bent, just that I know these tires arent going to hold up to my car this year. They didnt last year, and that was with 50 less HP and weaker suspension. I want RT615's, ken said he would give me a good deal on the 070s if I hooked him up with a good deal on new generals

Nate8409
04-17-2008, 02:12 PM
I kind of need to get rid of one of my sets of tires anyway if you are interested. Either the RE070's or 615's. Neither set has much tread left at all.

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 02:17 PM
well i would prefer 615s they in good shape for the whole season or are the 070s better? Whatre you getting?

Nate8409
04-17-2008, 04:38 PM
Yeah I don't care. I am trying to find some new ones anyway.

Robk0000
04-17-2008, 05:13 PM
i am suppose to be in FSP, but since i dont have racing slicks they can go to hell. I was putting in times 5 secs slower! im going SM.

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 05:49 PM
Why are you FSP?

Robk0000
04-17-2008, 05:50 PM
Drivetrain modification, lightweight flywheel. that puts you in Street Prep, even though i dont have slicks. But this season im going for the 'i dont have an altered flywheel' method.

Murphy2012
04-17-2008, 05:56 PM

Doesnt beat your car at all tony. Check sccnh.org for info. You can come to my place Sat night and we can tip a few back, then come up to the track with me and watch while we race at least. You can stand right out on the track and be a worker, you just have to sign your life away.

Murphy2012
04-26-2008, 10:52 AM
ALK looks like a mighty easy install. Well be done by the time Nate gets here!

jonny-rockets
04-26-2008, 10:59 AM
the ALK is just so that the front of your car doesnt lift when you hit the gas right?

Nate8409
04-26-2008, 11:18 AM
No the ALK changes the geometry up front a little and stiffens the rear bushing.

It makes steering response better but as for anti lift? I am not sure. I would think more anti squat.

Murphy2012
04-26-2008, 12:42 PM

Hell yeah that was. The instructor drove two cars and showed them how to do it. That time he took out the green car was awesome. He held the drift through the hole second lap portion of the course into the stop box. It was SICK.

how did everything go yesterday. was the track sik.

I'M NOT PLEASED AT ALL! I went keep in mind paid $80 for fuel drove total of 4 hours there and back paid 40 more to drive and got 10minutes TOPS ON THE COURSE! THEN AFTER 4 RUNS OF FOLLOWING THERE CONES AND RULES, I SAID I WANT TO HAVE FUN!, WENT OUT TRIED TO HAVE FUN AND "DRIFT" THEY RED FLAGGED ME HALF WAY THRU AND SAID TO GET OFF COURSE. THATS FINE UNTIL I WAS APPROACHED BY A GUY (I ASSUME HAS SOME AUTHORITY) AND HE TOLD ME THEY RED FLAGGED ME CAUSE I WASNT ON COURSE AND THE NEXT CAR DOESNT KNOW WHERE IM GONNA BE. (FINE) BUT THEN HE SAID WE WOULD MAKE "THERE MEMBERS ANGRY AND THAT THEY WOULD LOSE HALF THERE MEMBERS BECAUSE WE TAKE TWICE AS LONG TO GO AROUND THE COURSE AND IT TAKES AWAY FROM THERE SEAT TIME" THATS THE EXACT WORDS USED! EXCUSE ME BUT I BECAME A MEMBER TO AND PAID $120 TOTAL FOR ONE DAY TO GET MAYBE 10 MINUTES DRIVE TIME. NOT ONLY THAT BUT WE WERE REQUIRED TO WORK THE COURSE! I DIDNT PAY TO WORK! I PAID TO DRIVE, PERIOD.

I WONT BE BACK!

I APPRECIATE THE TIME TAKEN TO GET THIS FOR US BUT IM VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE SERIES OF EVENTS FOR THAT DAY! IT WAS A WASTE.

I WILL HOWEVER BE AT STAR ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT!

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE SR POWERED WOT 3RD GEAR HEAR I COME WOOT WOOT!

According to the SCCNH schedule the drift guys will be allowed to attend the next race, but i personally would want them banned fromt he autoX atmosphere. It is not like we need to be pissed at them all. One of their drivers acted like a tool. That is pretty much it. The one with the black ****box that broke down like eight times. The other kids were fine.

I personally think they should come back. Follow the course and drift it. It doesn't need to take anymore time for them to drift then it does a honda civic around the course.

As it was clearly shown when Brandon jumped in their cars he did the course like you were supposed to and drifted the whole thing very well.

IT IS A PLACE FOR THESE KIDS TO LEARN HOW TO DRIFT BETTER.

Look at the difference in the runs as the guy in the green car went. He got better and better and was more fun to watch.

I am no drifter but hating them all because of low skill and one jackass is just stupid.

The only car i liked watching was the white miata, He sucked but it was funny as hell everytime he drove. Okay, maybe i went a bit overboard, let them come, but if you go once and clearly show you are a safety hazard. Get the **** out. The dude in the green pos, absolutely had the wrong setup for this type of course. He didnt even spool, until he was about ready to brake.

I wouldnt say learn how to drift better, i would say its an intro in learning how to drift, maybe they need to play xbox somemore who knows, but they sucked.

Too much of the ss line was on the caliper side of the strut. The line was actually rubbing on his wheel (the wheel weight is my guess) and finally wore through.

Terry made it home alive I hope?

What a tight technical course. It pretty much negated any power advantage I or anyone else usually gets. Pretty rare to see such a tight course be so good. Great to see you guys there. I made it to the shop safe, driving the big v8 gas guzzler now, which is bad seeing my round trip work commute is 92 miles a day. Hopefully wont be too long.

From my experience, most autox courses involve going from 1>2 and staying there. Heel-toe is really only needed on the track.

mdungelman
06-04-2008, 12:49 AM
Once I shift from 1st to 2nd I usually stay in second and very rarely shift back down to 1st. Just the way the courses are setup. 3rd gear doesn't enter most peoples vocabulary for auto-x courses, at least what I'm used to.

Murphy2012

I am typically in second. The last course I was in between first and second, mostly in first though.

jonny-rockets
06-04-2008, 11:12 AM

i was thinking that there would be some open spots where that shifting style would be useful.

that sounds even more fun though, just staying in 2nd.

Nate8409
06-04-2008, 02:01 PM
Two corners were first gear corners for me on the last course. So during the course I shifted 5 times.

I have only been into third gear on one course in the past and that was a fast course that had a straight all the way accross the parking lot diagonally.

Someday I want to hit up Devens to see how it is there. 3 gear is a common gear at those courses from what I have been told.

I think he is supposed to be in SM. He was the guy that supposedly beat me the last time, but was classed wrong then, too.

I'll probably show up... I usually go to CART events in Connecticut since my buddy lives down there, but NHIS is a hell of a lot closer. Went to their AutoX school earlier this year and they seem like a good bunch of guys.

I don't think you will see me up in the Suby anymore. If I make it up to anymore of these it will be in the Sentra.
