So I went ahead and ordered an ebay cat-back exhaust the other day. Fedex says it should be delivered on the 1st. Once I get it on I'll type up a little review on it.
For reference this is the exhaust: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=230223800692
Price is $199 plus $50 shipped plus $3 for insurance. It's labeled an SR*S Exhaust system but really it's an ERZ but re-labeled. I didn't care that it's not a Cobb or Greddy or STi because in the end it's just a metal pipe and they all do the same thing. The weight on it is lighter then the stock exhaust and since I'm not racing my car and just wanted a more throaty sound, $250 sounded good to me.
I found info on it from ClubWRX here: http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/showthread.php?t=168698
Nearly 20 pages of people buying the exhaust and no complaints besides some rust issues which I'm sure so basic care will keep from happening. They have sound clips on there that include with and without the silencer. I have no doubts it'll be exactly what I want/need, cheap, sounds good and easy to install. Just need to add a down-pipe and flash to stage 2 at some point.
So as soon as I get it installed I'll do a little write-up. If you are looking at getting one here is a list of them on ebay: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=SR*S+Exhaust&category0=

They really arent bad at all with the silencer in. I heard one of those same ones on a 03 rex wagon a year ago and it sounded pretty, he did say it had mild drone at highway travel. Im sure you will like it! Let me know if you would like help installing!

Yea I was actually going to see if maybe we can set something up. Might be hard to get up to belmont with my schedule though. I've also got some kartboy bushings to install too, have had them for a year but been too lazy to throw them on .
I'll give you a call next week when it comes in.
I think my best bet is to install it with the silencer, then start it up and check the sound out, if I don't like the sound then I'll pull the silencer. My only issue is the looks of it with the silencer installed so I might just pull it regardless.

Right, the silencer does look a little cheesy. Ya man I can make time if you can, but I will need a weeks advance, or before a friday, which is when I make the schedules for the restaurant. Bushings are tit. Total job will literally take us about half an hour.

Yea I know it won't take long. Just have to figure out when we can work on it, our schedules are messy to say the least haha.

I am looking, I saw it this morning. Its the shot where they are at the shooting range and the dude gets shot in the nuts with the protective bulletproof cup. "That little guy? I wouldn't worry about that little guy?"

Hahaha, classic. Think that was my first avatar, just figured my current one represents me a lot better.

the one I have sounded great. When I drove my car home from the body shop on the highway my head started to hurt from the drone though.I have a catless dp though. It was too loud for me.

I'm sure it was probably the catless dp that helped with the higher amount of sound. That was without the silencer right?

no silencer. I had one for my old helix catback sounded bad and looked even worse. you'll probly won't run the silencer more then once.

Yea, from the talk on the clubwrx thread most people remove it and don't have any problems until you run a catless downpipe. I guess the sound increases a lot then.
I think someone said it runs at about 95dB at 5,000 rpm, and 92dB at 3,000 rpm and that is measuring about 1 foot away from the exhaust tip. If that's the case I'm not too worried. Worse case scenario is I get some sound deafening material for the trunk and below the rear seat and I should be fine.

Why don't you do the install at the ship yard in Portsmouth? It's $6/hr with a lift and tools + free disposal of trash and fluids and such. I do all my big installs there.:D

I'm not even sure I can use the hobby shop there because I'm not assigned to that base.
Even still, I should be able to find someone in the nearby area to help me out for free. It's not a hard job, I just need a car lift because I don't want to lay down in the snow outside under car ramps. Plus an extra set of hands so the stocker doesn't fall on my head would help too .

Anybody with a military ID can use it. It's just nice to have tones of tools like welders, presses and lifts at your disposal. Most military members that aren't stationed there don't know about it. They also have a tire mounting machine and balancer and brake lathe. Just some good info for future car repairs and mods

Do they require any classes to use the shop? My last duty station required some "training/overview" before using the shop.

no classes even for the welder or lathe. My last base required the same thing but the ship yard is very lax. If you do want to do it there I can give you a hand. I and doind a set of new springs there in the next week or two.

I had the exhaust on my 07 and it sounded great, I had it on stock dp to start and it was not loud at all. Then the catless went on and it screamed. I also had a wagon and there was no drone with stock dp.

Yea, I'm not too worried, from what I hear the sound is not too bad at all. I'll have it on my stock downpipe for the immediate future so sound should not be an issue.

So the exhaust came in today from FedEx Ground. Fast delivery considering FedEx Ground is slow as **** and it came all the way from Sacromento California.
Nothing was damaged and all the parts are there. I'll probably get it installed this coming week. Working Sunday and Monday night so it'll get put on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

Ok, had the exhaust put on today. No pictures yet, mostly because it's ****ty outside so nothing will show up good any way.
The sound quality is great IMO. At highway speeds (75mph in 5th gear) the exhaust is barely audible from in the car with windows up and the radio on. Radio off is where you'll start to hear it a little more, but certainly not bad at all.
The sound clips on clubwrx.net are pretty much right on.
The install was pretty smooth. The guys from Range Auto in Somersworth did it for me since I didn't have time to drive up to belmont and it's far too crappy out still to be sitting in my driveway doing it.
Everything went on fine, the only thing that had to be done was widening of the downpipe bolt holes so that they could attach the mid-pipe to it since the bolts that came with the exhaust were too big for the holes.
Couldn't be happier with this exhaust. For $250 (including shipping from California that took roughly 6 days) you couldn't ask for a better deal. If you're looking for an exhaust and don't care who makes it then I'd suggest this one.
