well I'm going with falken rt615's there dirt cheap and super sticky.
but they will be 255's
on the cheaper side pick up some nice used re070s from wimpy sti owners that thought the tires were to much for there car. they are great tires.
you can find them on the private sale forums on nasioc.
only thing the stock sti re070's are 225/45/17 but they should fit I think.

i wanna get 235s even though they wont fit :)

If you want good tires that are cheap and will still auto cross. Go with the General Exclaims. I can get them for 80 bucks a tire in 225/45/17. They are great in the rain and track ok besides the somewhat weak sidewalls. I autocrossed my first season on em and they went just fine!

I've always heard good things about the F1's. I'll probably be getting a pair myself when I'm not too poor to buy wheels. :spin:

yokohama avs sports, had them on my Volvo and they were great.

I think I'm changing to RE01-R instead of the rt 615. there a little more money but have great reviews and I know a few people with them and they love them. They grip like a RE070 and handle water well and wear great too. I'm sold on them

My vote goes to the Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212. All the dry weather grip of the Falken Azenis RT-615, wet grip of the General Exclaim UHP, with a middle of the road price($100 or less).

interesting..... keep them coming!
this is very apprichiated (sp?) still need to do more research but i do need tires come spring

03-01-2008, 10:28 AM
appreciated. also check out the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1
Those hankook rs2's are awesome in the dry! In the rain...they're ok. better than the stock tires, but very easy to break loose. When it gets chilly, forget about it, they suck...

Im not really likeing the idea of switching brakes for winter along with wheels. So i think i may go with my rotas with sharing the winter tires on them.
How many of you share your wheels between two sets of tires? Also, i got my tires at Town fair so free changeover FTW!
Kevin
04-06-2008, 03:00 PM
I run the i-pikes winters and re070's on my stock bbs wheels. I have ted(nhsilversti) do the changeover for me 10 bucks a tire and you get a ride in his beast of a sti.
you can always find another set of rota's dirt cheap though.
I'm going to have to get a hold of ted to swap out my tires for me. Got a number? or should i just pm him on nasioc.?

ya that would probly be the easiest way. If you want I have his house and cell too. I'm thinking I might go this weekend if he's not to busy.

you can have my BFgoodrich kdw II, 215/45/17
I agree 100%, I had these on my old S4, GREAT tires, and that is an understatement.

I'm torn between 255/40/17 or 245 falken rt-615's.
I think I'm gonna go with the 255's there 122 each at vulcan tire but there sold out till late april. I think I can get a few months out of my re070s.

I'm torn between the Potenza RE-01R and the Hankook Ventus R-S2, which do you guys think is a better tire?
Kevin
05-08-2008, 06:17 AM
re-01r's there a little more money though
WinterKnoll
05-14-2008, 04:22 PM
So I ended up going with the RE-01Rs, they're not here yet, but I'm excited :D Haha my winters aren't doing my new suspension justice.
Kevin
05-14-2008, 07:29 PM
you should love them same dry grip as the re070's but better in the wet and not as loud.
I drove a sti with them on it.

05-14-2008, 10:25 PM
I think I'm going with the Kumho Ecsta MX... tons of good tirerack reviews and my friend was using them for track duty and they held up amazingly well for a cheaper tire.

05-14-2008, 10:59 PM
Yeah, after driving an STi with RE070s I knew I had to get a tire with grip like that..just unbelievable.
Kevin
06-01-2008, 11:32 PM
you get the re01r's on yet
I was thinking about getting some soon
WinterKnoll
06-02-2008, 07:04 AM
Yup been driving on them for a couple of weeks now, love them. Super, super grippy and predictable. Haven't driven them in the rain too much, but wet performance has been pretty good too.
Kevin
06-02-2008, 10:49 PM
nice I think I might pick up some in the 255 flavor

My GF never rubbed on either 215 OR 235. Then again rocking coilovers gives you the flexability for it. Hate me if you want! Find a set of Nexen n3000. I've had Nexen N2000 215's on 17's and Toyo Proxes 4 235's on 18's. the Proxes are now on my SVX on my new 18x8 Tramac 3's. Proxes 4's are good enough for all year on the lighter first gen chasis but a winter tire and a sumer set is better like Toyo Z1R's

That's what I got thanks to your recommendation from vulcan. Might wanna hurry as this model is backordered pretty much everywhere.

Falken and Pirelli are both in rough shape right now. Seems neither company can keep up with the demand. I have been seeing the same trends for tires at my work.

I need to get two sets of tires asap. I want Dunlop ZR-1's for summer and something for winter. Dont really care what but i dont wanna spend more than $1000 for both sets!
Kevin
09-23-2008, 06:11 PM
what size you looking at getting?
Robk0000
09-23-2008, 06:19 PM
summers, i want to try and fit 235/45/17 and winters prolly 225 or 215/45/17, im going to keep the winters on my rotas and my summers on a new set of wheels.
Kevin
09-23-2008, 06:28 PM
I like my hankook i-pikes for winter there pretty cheap. I think terry said he could get those pretty cheap.
on the summers look into falken rt 615's there dirt cheap.
both sets of tires should be under a grand
Robk0000
09-23-2008, 06:49 PM
yeah, terry did say they were cheap. I will chat with his dad during business hours sometime soon. As far as summers im pretty set on the Dunlops, $138 a piece and they will last around 20k, plus they are great for autoX.
Question about tire size though, is 235 the largest size for a 7.5" wheel, or is that overkill?
Robk0000
09-24-2008, 06:59 PM
okay, going to Sams club tonight to see what they can get fo prices on the Dunlops, Yay.

and i love them as well. almost as good as my bfgoodriches in the summer.

i have the kdwIIs now, they are awesome! Lasted me 30000 miles and i autoxed on them for 3 years. I really wouldnt mind getting them but i kinda wanna get something more aggressive, plus the kdws rub badly and they are only 215's!

i just picked up a set of Kumbo ecsta MXs and they feel amazing...... treadwear is 220 so they are nice and grippy. and they felt great that last auto-x, although i should have had a little more tire preasure in them
Robk0000
09-25-2008, 06:13 PM
what were you running fo psi at the race?
Robk0000
09-25-2008, 07:47 PM
I just came back from sams club, well i am disappointed.
They cannot even order me the ZR1s, and they want $200 for a comparable tire. Which is lame. im going to have townfair pricematch me the zr1's and maybe a set of winters if tehy give me a deal.

im not 100% sure wat i was running but they were rolling over slightly on me with all the understear my car has :( i needs sway bars
Kevin

I think you have to change the camber and toe to get rid of the understeer along with the sways
AllWheelsDriven
09-26-2008, 12:23 AM

bridgestone potenza RE760 sports 225/45/17 grippy, great in the wet wear great, 45's give you enough meat to protect from bent wheels, middle of the road$$$. hands down the best tires I've had, and I've tried them all, toyo, nitto, goodyear, perelli, you name it I've run them. "for drivers who want the most out of there tire's, it's bridgestone or nothing" and that's no bull****!!!!
Kevin
09-27-2008, 10:18 PM
potenza's are pretty nice I still want some 255 reo1r but there $$$$$
