As a proclaimed Forza fan-boy, it seems like they did everything right. Good damage simulation, cars can roll, more cars than Forza (allegedly 30+ Subarus), course designer, and more formats (cart, F1, Nascar, Rally...)

I bought the GT Prologue when I lived in salem,nh and had a ps3.. even that, as a stripped down cock-tease was amazing. my brother just picked up a ps3 and I dusted off prologue and its been wonderful.. I cant wait for the full game to come out.

Or along the lines of downloading add in packs for certain cars.. The whole reason why I got a ps3 over xbox (besides teh red ring, ps3 has a blue ray player, etc) was so I could play gt5 and have my bug eye wagon like I did in GT3

I've played this a little since it came out, about a level 11 now.

The good -
The most realistic (single car) driving dynamics
Gorgeous replays (depending on car)
Fun game modes (drifting, go karts, rally, Nascar etc)
Fully customizable buttons (Unlike Forza)
More cohesive Career mode than Forza
Course "designer"

The bad (compared to Forza)
Car and damagrendering
Car interaction ie collisions
Less tuning options
Less upgrade options
Xbox controller > Sony
Can't REW or FF replays

There are probably more, load times are similar. In regards to the course designer, it's interesting, but not what I expected. You get to choose 3-10 corners, and can adjust the width, sharpness, and complexity of the corner (from 1-10), and you have the game auto generate it for you. You can keep having it auto-generate till you see one you like, but that's about it.

Jalopnik sums it up nicely:

I have to say that while Gran Turismo 5's driving dynamics are better than any other racing game on the market, Forza Motorsport 3's nipping closely at its heels*. And given some of the latter's better (and more clearly labeled) vehicular upgrade options, smoother interaction with AI vehicles, and GT5's installation "challenges" (like a 133 MB required update to make multiplayer mode somewhat usable), Forza Motorsport 3 provides a much more compelling option for a car enthusiast looking to jump into a realistic and entertaining video racing game.

But, if you want to lose yourself for days in the most utterly realistic yet complicatedly obtuse driving game ever, pausing only to defecate, urinate, sleep and eat (in no particular order), buy Gran Turismo 5.

Big update came out today. Going to check it out now.

The real driving simulator just got a little more real, thanks to a big update to Gran Turismo 5 (http://kotaku.com/tag/granturismo5). Weighing in at more than 600 MB, the GT5 update brings a long list of changes and welcomes the GT Academy.
