This was a funny dyno plot I found elsewhere. These runs were done a few weeks apart, but the only thing that changed was the wheels/tires. The weather was within 5 degrees on both days and humidity was the same.

This was a dyno session a customer of ours just did after he swapped out his "hella flush" 18x9.5 Rota DTP's for a set of 17x8 Enkei RPF-1's. This is a BONE stock 09 WRX 5mt. http://i423.photobucket.com/albums/pp315/DHGURS/Random%20internet/DYNOSHEET3.jpg

Funny and interesting at the same time. But, to each his own, some people like to have a certain look and some want every last pony they can squeeze out.

well put. to each his own. but i'll take the ponies, thanks.

it does. they can take the extra rolling mass and cram it.

VW brotatos / "wrong fitment crew" = dumb

"Brah guy dude, I'm just pushing the limit, aiming for the skies, your just jealous cause you're not pushing the envelope and innovating, like me and all of my friends, we all have 215/40's on our +14et 9.5" rims, stop being a hater"

Response I get every time when I poke fun at someones stupid poke on the other site.

 oh man...

To each their own I guess :)

I just think it's funny they did dyno pulls just because of different wheels...

wishi had a dyno, I'd do pulls all the time just for the **** of it. Ah ****, just put in a different CD... DYNO TIME :spin:

Aren't subes flush anyway? the offset is very small.
That is a famous trait to me. The whole body, the whole wheel well, mimicked a bimmer since the 70s.
the hella flush stuff, I don't understand.

footprint for 2000 pounds over 4 wheel independent still does not see more than 250 pound springs.... why giant wide wheels? can't even gain oe camber designs in simple turns. Making a crazy drifter suicide machine...?
:dunno:
I bet 6 inch wide gains even more...funny enough, there is 6 inch wide taking 1356 pounds weight rating a tire for 50 years. Why is the sube playing american hot rod?

Kids in engineering... go home. Fairy tale is over for the pros, and has been for a long time.
great thread, dyno says it all.

Another similar result.

Guy does runs with 17" vs. 18". 17's weigh 145 combined 18's weigh 184.

His best runs of the day using an airboy dyno which factors in differences in tire diameter:

So my stock 14's are so full of win I already have like epic power?!?! I like the way this is going. Or maybe it is the other way around. Lose 15hp per inch. So if I am making, lets say 90hp to the wheels and I go to 18's I could be at 30whp?

Your 14" steelies are actually pretty heavy. A light 16" or 17" wheel is generally accepted as the best trade off for weight/contact patch

Hey I also have very light alloy 14's but may end up on snowflakes or BBS rxII's

DHGurs

Or, if you are very concerned about rotational mass, I'd probably get some 15 or 16" RFP1's

It's not as much the diameter but the weight it's self. A factory 02-04' WRX wheel (and likely the 05') weight like 16.7lbs at 16x7" and 06-07' 17x7" wheels weight in at 21lbs. BUT I have a set of Konig 18x7.5" that weight in at 21lbs. Notice previously about the Enei RFP1's!

Damn it Randy, NoooooooOOO!

Hella Flush needs to go away period. It's a waste of a perfectly good car. I can't even count how many rusted fenders there are on "flushed" cars that are ruined from continuous tire abrasion.

reading it wrong. with the larger, silly looking wheel setup he lost 15whp. which is quite a bit of hp lost for just trying to look cool..

it's a nice wheel. just stinks that a 17" wheel looks like a 15" wheel once you bolt it up cause of where the spokes seat.

Light wheels have a huge effect on suspension movement as well.

Ditto. All that unsprung weight? No thanks.

Hell even if I only go to the track three times a year, i'd much prefer to not ruin my poor car that sees enough abuse already.

What does this thread prove again? Two dynos a month apart don't prove much of anything. I'm not a huge fan of the whole stretch tire/hellaflush/poke thing either but this comparison proves nothing.

How about the Rotas compared to Stockers? Or a same day comparison. Of course lighter wheels will make more power, they'd also be better than stock wheels. Less rotational weight always wins but you could have two dynos with the same exact wheels a month apart and have the same result as the OP posted. Too many factors could change in a month. Just sayin.

Hell of a first post. Sorry.:palm:
